George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley blasted Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff of California Monday, saying Schiff never provided evidence for allegations that President Donald Trump colluded with Russia.
Director of National Tulsi Gabbard released documents and a memo July 18 detailing what she called a “years-long coup” against Trump after he defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race. Turley said that the probe into the allegations of collusion “consumed” a large portion of Trump’s first turn. (RELATED: Jonathan Turley Says This Obama Intel Head Might Want To Lawyer Up)
“What Ratcliffe is talking about releasing could tell the public what has – how this all began. Keep in mind, it worked. They rushed the second assessment, just as they flipped the first assignment at the end of the Obama administration,” Turley told “America Reports” co-host Sandra Smith. “Even when the CIA was telling them ‘We don’t see Russian collusion, we don’t see any impact on the election.’ They did that and seeded the eventual Russian investigation that consumed much of Trump’s first term. So, it succeeded.”

“But that bill has come due now and we are going to find out how that came about,” Turley continued. “Keep in mind, some of these numbers are saying ‘Well you know, this isn’t new, we know about this all along.’ But that’s the problem, you have people like Representative Schiff, now Senator Schiff, who even contradicted the special counsel when he said there was no Russian collusion, saying ‘I got secret information that shows he’s wrong.’ He never produced it because it doesn’t exist.”
Special counsel John Durham released a report on May 15, 2023, on the origins of the FBI investigation of allegations that Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russia that found that the FBI “did not and could not corroborate” the claims from the now-discredited Steele Dossier, which was used to obtain warrants to monitor communications by Carter Page and other associates of Trump.
Schiff often made claims alleging collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia after Trump defeated Clinton during media appearances. Then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy removed Schiff from the House Intelligence Committee on Jan. 24, 2023, citing allegations that Schiff lied on multiple issues, including his defense of the Steele dossier.
Schiff was censured by the House of Representatives in June 2023 over his claims that Trump colluded with Russia.
