Authorities have identified the individual believed to be responsible for Saturday’s deadly bombing at a fertility clinic in Palm Springs as 25-year-old Guy Edward Bartkus, a resident of Twentynine Palms.

The explosion at American Reproductive Centers killed one person and injured four others, and is now being officially treated as an act of terrorism.

While officials have not formally confirmed the identity of the deceased individual, many believe Bartkus was the sole fatality in the blast, which left a debris field measuring approximately 250 yards.

The explosion was strong enough to be felt miles away from the scene.

According to investigators, Bartkus left behind a 30-minute audio recording in which he expressed his motivations for targeting the fertility clinic.

In the recording, he identified himself as a “pro-mortalist,” a fringe philosophy that argues against the value of life and contends that birth itself is unethical due to the lack of consent from the unborn.

“I figured I would just make a recording explaining why I’ve decided to bomb an IVF building, or clinic,” Bartkus stated at the beginning of the tape.

“Basically, it just comes down to I’m angry that I exist and that, you know, nobody got my consent to bring me here.”

Bartkus continued by voicing his opposition to in vitro fertilization (IVF), calling it “extremely wrong” and criticizing those who choose to have children through reproductive technology.

“These are people who are having kids after they’ve sat there and thought about it. How much more stupid can it get?” he said in the recording.

Investigators say Bartkus attempted to film the attack by setting up a camera on a tripod, but the video file failed to upload to a website he maintained.

That site, which has since been reported to authorities, contains writings and references to other disturbing incidents.

In a FAQ section on the site, Bartkus referenced the April 22 death of 27-year-old Sophie Tinney in Fox Island, Washington.

He claimed Tinney was his best friend and that they had made an informal agreement that if one of them died, the other would soon follow.

Tinney died after reportedly convincing her boyfriend, 29-year-old Lars Eugene Nelson, to shoot her while she slept.

Nelson was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Police are investigating the extent of Bartkus’s communications with Tinney and Nelson, though no official link has been confirmed beyond Bartkus’s own statements on the website.

Local law enforcement and federal authorities are continuing to process the scene of the blast in Palm Springs and are examining digital evidence recovered from Bartkus’s devices and residence.

The four individuals injured in the bombing are reportedly receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.

Their conditions have not been publicly disclosed.

Officials say this is the first confirmed act of terrorism targeting a fertility clinic in the United States.

A joint investigation involving the FBI, ATF, and local law enforcement is underway.

I have been briefed on the explosion at a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California that took place today. Federal agents are on the ground now responding alongside local law enforcement.

We are working to learn more, but let me be clear: the Trump administration understands…

Authorities have not released further details about Bartkus’s background or whether he had been previously flagged for extremist behavior.
