Democratic strategist James Carville made a startling claim on Friday, suggesting that President Donald Trump’s response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during their tense Oval Office meeting could be linked to syphilis.
Carville made the statement in a Politicon YouTube episode titled “James Carville: What Just Happened in the Oval Office,” where he speculated about Trump’s behavior, offering various explanations ranging from age and diet to medical conditions.
The meeting in question took place at the White House, where Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other officials discussed a potential U.S. mineral deal with Ukraine.

Tensions rose when Zelensky criticized the United States for not doing enough to prevent Russia’s military actions.
At one point during the conversation, Trump cut off Zelensky, warning him that he was “gambling with the start of World War III.”
The sharp exchange was widely covered, fueling debates over U.S.-Ukraine relations and the future of American support.
In his video, Carville launched into a tirade against Trump, making a series of personal attacks before floating his theory about the president’s medical condition.

“What was the cause of this? A man who’s obviously for a long time been in decline, who’s fat, who doesn’t sleep at night, who eats nothing but hamburgers and crap, who’s almost 80 years old,” Carville said.
Carville then claimed that Trump’s health issues could not simply be explained by aging or lifestyle choices and suggested that another factor could be at play.
“I want to see the possibility that maybe I had a point considerably earlier than this when I pointed out on this very channel where Trump had red splotches on his hand, which I was told by any number of medical professionals that when you see that condition, the first thing that you suspect is syphilis,” Carville stated.
Reports about a bruise on Trump’s hand first surfaced Monday following his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The mark led to online speculation, but the White House quickly addressed the matter.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News Digital that the bruise was a result of Trump shaking hands with thousands of Americans.
“President Trump meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other president in history,” Leavitt said.
Carville continued his speculation by bringing First Lady Melania Trump into the discussion, claiming she has distanced herself from the president due to his alleged condition.
“We know from any number of videos that his wife doesn’t want to get in the same zip code as him. If you had a spouse that had syphilis, I’m not saying he does. I mean, let me be clear, I’m just asking questions. But what she saw is madness,” Carville said.
He went on to compare Trump to historical figures known for their erratic behavior.
“I don’t mean madness like I’m mad at you, you mad at me. You didn’t say this. I’m talking about madness like King George III kind of madness,” Carville claimed.
Carville’s remarks come as the U.S.-Ukraine negotiations over a multi-billion-dollar mineral deal remain in limbo.
After the heated Oval Office meeting, White House officials told Daily Caller correspondent Reagan Reese that “nothing will be signed” on the agreement that was initially expected to be finalized Friday.
Following the meeting, Trump took to Truth Social to comment on the situation, writing:
“It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelensky is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations.”
Despite the setback, Zelensky signaled that he was still open to discussions. In an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on Friday evening, he indicated that he was willing to sign the mineral deal but wanted further clarification on U.S. security guarantees.
As negotiations remain uncertain, Carville’s controversial claims about Trump have added another layer to an already tense political climate.
