Jasmine Crockett Claims Trump Supporters Aren’t Patriotic for Cheering Comey Indictment [WATCH]

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) said Thursday that supporters of President Donald Trump cannot call themselves patriotic if they celebrated the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey.

Crockett made the remarks during an appearance on MSNBC’s All In with host Chris Hayes.

The discussion followed the Justice Department’s announcement that Comey had been indicted on two federal charges.

Hayes introduced the segment by saying, “James Comey, the former director of the FBI, a guy who refused to turn the bureau into Trump’s personal plaything, has now been indicted on two federal charge.”

Crockett responded by criticizing Trump’s supporters, saying their reaction to Comey’s indictment reflected a disregard for American principles.

“Yeah, so here’s the thing. I want the American people to know that when you stand up to a bully, you win. Do not back down. Do not bend. You allow them to go and wage their threats. If everybody starts to bend, for sure, what is left of our democracy will be gone. And unfortunately, that is exactly what he wants. And even more sadly, is that many of his followers agree with this. And I am thinking to myself, how is it that you can call yourself American or patriotic when you literally don’t understand who we are as Americans? When you literally are okay with throwing out the Constitution, when you’re okay with someone just deciding, you know what, This is the end result that I’m seeking and so just figure out how to get there versus doing what you are supposed to do,” Crockett said.

The Texas Democrat added that while many in her party had their own frustrations with Comey, that was not grounds for legal action against him.

“Listen, even as Democrats, we had our fair share of issues with James Comey but that’s not a reason to prosecute someone. And so here’s the deal, if he decides that he wants to continue down this path, I think that they’re going to continue to lose. I don’t see the former FBI director saying that he is going to just go ahead and enter into a plea deal, or he’s just going to take this lying down. I think that this is someone who absolutely will fight this to the end.”

Comey was indicted earlier this week on one count of making a false statement within the jurisdiction of Congress and one count of obstruction of a congressional investigation.

The charges stem from his testimony in September 2020, when prosecutors allege he misled lawmakers about FBI leaks to the media during the 2016 election.

The indictment has already drawn sharp reactions from political leaders and commentators.

President Trump posted on X following the news, calling the indictment “JUSTICE IN AMERICA” and describing Comey as “one of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement that “no one is above the law,” while FBI Director Kash Patel described the indictment as part of the bureau’s efforts to restore accountability.

Crockett’s remarks reflect a growing debate in Congress over the consequences of Comey’s indictment and its implications for both the Justice Department and the FBI.

While Trump and his supporters have welcomed the move, Democrats such as Crockett continue to defend Comey’s actions while criticizing Republicans for celebrating the charges.

The case is expected to proceed in federal court in the coming weeks, with Comey facing potential trial over the two felony counts.
