Jasmine Crockett: “Listen, Donald Trump is a Piece of S***’

Jasmine Crockett was doing her thing in Arizona yesterday. She appeared with on stage with at MoveOn’s “Won’t Back Down” tour along with Sen. Chris Murphy, Rep. Yassamin Ansari and the left-wing podcaster Adam Mockler. During one of her rants, Crockette went off on the Supreme Court, saying it ought to be doing more to rein in President Trump.

“Donald Trump is a piece of shit. OK, we know that,” Crockett said, earning thunderous cheers. “But in a functioning democracy, he still would not be able to get away with this.”

She pointed squarely at the conservative-majority Supreme Court, accusing the justices of enabling Trump’s abuses of power and urging swift action to crack down on their cozy ties to right-wing donors.

“We know that they’re taking money. We have the paper trail,” she said. “And they refuse to put guardrails on themselves, so it’s time for us to do it for them.”

Here’s Crockett attacking the Supreme Court and trashing Trump as an aside.

Vulgarity aside, what she’s saying about the US not have a functioning democracy is pretty extreme. Attacking the one branch of government that is not elected as not democratic seems a bit clueless but obviously the people who paid to go to this event don’t care. She’s serving anti-Trump red meat and they love it.

As for the bills she mentions being put in place, she’s talking about a progressive bill called the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency Act which was introduced by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse and Rep. Hank Johnson. The bill was blocked in the Senate and isn’t going anywhere.

There may be another reason, besides her usual desire to gain attention for herself, that Rep. Crockett was a bit worked up this weekend. Her redrawn district in Texas would not include her current residence. She can live outside her district and still represent the district but she’s also likely to wind up in a significantly less blue district with a bunch of new voters who may not be as enthusiastic about her.

Shortly before she went on stage for the Arizona event yesterday, she posted a TikTok video in which she described Trump as a “tyrant,” an “orange orangutan,” and as “Temu Hitler.” The responses to this video are full of thrilled Democrats who love this stuff. Give her some credit. She’s not wrong to market herself this way when this is clearly what the Democratic Party wants. It’s working for her in her own party. We’ll see if if Crockett’s new constituents in Texas are eager to vote for this.
