Elaine Godfrey, a staff writer at The Atlantic, claims she was escorted out of a rally held by Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett by armed guards.
“For the past hour, I’d watched as Representative Jasmine Crockett riled up her supporters … But afterward, as I attempted to join the other reporters interviewing the lawmaker, a woman with a badge approached me,” writes Godfrey.
The woman asked Godfrey if she was herself. Godfrey answered in the affirmative.
“[Crockett’s] team has asked you to leave,” the woman told Godfrey. When Godfrey asked why, the staffer read a message off her phone.
“They just said, ‘Elaine from Atlantic, white girl with a hat and notepad. She’s interviewing people in the crowd. She’s a top-notch hater and will spin. She needs to leave.‘”
Crockett granted Godfrey access for a profile in 2025, before calling the journalist to “express frustration that I had reached out to so many House members without telling her first.” (RELATED: Jasmine Crockett Drops Race Card On Liberals)
Crockett told Godfrey she was “shutting down the profile and revoking all permissions.”

Godfrey went ahead and published the piece anyway. My favorite detail from Godfrey’s profile is that Crockett’s phone lock screen is a “headshot of herself.”
Crockett denies ejecting Godfrey from the rally, telling CBS News’ Shawna Mizelle there is “no evidence” a journalist was asked to leave.
“There is a specific journalist who is, she has a history of being less than truthful, and frankly, there’s no evidence of anything that she’s talking about. I’ve not seen anything and we were asked about whether or not … if something like that happened. Nothing like that happened,” Crockett said, shrugging.
Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of The Atlantic, told Semafor that “one of the publication’s reporters had been registered to attend an event with Crockett in Texas, but was asked to leave and escorted off the grounds after starting to ask questions.”
“I will say, about that journalist, she has been sued for defamation and lies before,” Crockett continued. “So it is sad that there is any news outlet that actually would have her on the staff when, you know as a journalist, the one thing that matters most is truth.” (RELATED: Jasmine Crockett Says She Has Not Been Invited On Colbert’s Show Since Opponent’s Segment Got Pulled)
Godfrey clarifies, with regards to defamation suits: “Perhaps [Crockett] was thinking of someone else, because that’s not something that has ever happened to me.”
Crockett’s campaign reportedly called the Capitol Police on CNN reporter Edward-Isaac Dovere in early February, “asserting that he may have trespassed when he attempted to visit a campaign office location,” according to Semafor.
Crockett seems a little too used to being coddled by left-wing media. When journalists are anything less than sycophantic, she closes ranks.
