Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) said Sunday that House Democrats will subpoena Elon Musk if they regain control of the chamber in the 2026 midterm elections, as reported by GOP USA.

Her statement follows Musk’s recent departure from a temporary government advisory role under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Elon Musk and President-elect Donald Trump are pictured speaking at the ‘Make America Great Again Victory Rally’ at the Capital One Arena in Washington.

Musk served 130 days as a special government employee within the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an office created by executive order in January to identify and eliminate wasteful federal spending.

DOGE reports it has already saved taxpayers more than $175 billion by cutting contracts, grants, and leases, and has a target goal of reaching $1 trillion in savings.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO appeared alongside President Trump during a May 30 press conference at the White House, where both men signaled ongoing collaboration.

Musk’s role with DOGE officially ended last week with the expiration of his special government employee designation.

During an appearance on MSNBC, Crockett stated that Democrats had previously attempted to issue a subpoena to Musk but were blocked by the Republican-led House.

“I think that unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait until the Democrats are in the majority—which will hopefully be in the midterms—and then we can absolutely bring Elon Musk in. We can have him under oath, and we can have him tell us about everything that he did.”

Democrats have expressed ongoing criticism of Musk and DOGE’s work. In April, top Democrats on the House and Senate Appropriations Committees condemned Trump and Musk for freezing or blocking $430 billion in funding that had already been approved by Congress.

“Instead of investing in the American people, President Trump is ignoring our laws and ripping resources away,” read a joint statement from Democratic committee leaders. The White House has defended the cuts, citing a need for greater fiscal responsibility and prioritization.

President Trump has said that DOGE was created to bring “accountability and transparency to federal spending,” and emphasized that it has already resulted in major taxpayer savings.

According to DOGE’s website, the average savings per taxpayer so far amounts to approximately $1,080.

Musk, who has described his approach to government reform in stark terms, told reporters in February:

“If it’s not possible now, it will never be possible. This is our shot. This is the best hand of cards we’re ever going to have.”

In a CBS News interview published Sunday, Musk likened the federal bureaucracy to an overgrown Department of Motor Vehicles.

“My frank opinion of the government is that, like, the government is just, like, the DMV that got big, okay?” Musk said. “So, when you say it like, ‘Let’s have the government do something,’ you should think, ‘Do you want the DMV to do it?’”

The White House and Musk’s company, X, have not publicly responded to Crockett’s comments.
