Vice President JD Vance addressed thousands of pro-life advocates at the March for Life in Washington, D.C., on Friday, his first public appearance since being sworn in earlier in the week.
Speaking to a crowd that braved freezing temperatures, Vance described the event as “a joy and a blessing to fight for the unborn.”
“We march to live out the sacred truth that every single child is a miracle and a gift from God,” Vance said, praising attendees for their passion and conviction.

He noted the contrast between the bitter cold of Friday and the weather-related move of Monday’s inauguration to an indoor venue.
“But you guys — and it’s bitter cold today — here you are outside in an especially frigid January. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a joyful crowd out here, particularly during this time of year,” he said.
Vance emphasized the importance of protecting children and supporting families, sharing personal reflections on raising his three young children with his wife, Usha.
“It has been the single greatest blessing of our lives to watch them grow, learn, and become who they are today,” he said.
“Every parent here knows that feeling, that awe of a newborn child. It is our responsibility to cherish and to protect it.”
He also stressed the need to bring family values back to the center of American society, declaring that the “benchmark of national success” should be whether people feel capable of raising healthy and thriving families.
Vance acknowledged the challenges faced by young couples and urged the government to make it easier for families to succeed.
Vance reassured attendees that the federal government under the Trump administration would protect pro-life advocates.
He vowed that there would be no more FBI raids on the homes of pro-life activists, referencing the raid on Mark Houck, a pro-life advocate.
He also highlighted President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon several pro-life activists, signaling the administration’s commitment to protecting those who defend life.
“I want more babies in the United States of America. I want more happy children in our country, and I want beautiful young men and women who are eager to welcome them into the world and eager to raise them,” Vance said, reaffirming the administration’s pro-life stance.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) also addressed the crowd, highlighting the Republican Party’s commitment to protecting innocent life.
“For two decades before I was elected to Congress, I served as a constitutional law attorney, and I litigated cases to defend our fundamental freedoms like religious liberty and the sanctity of human life,” Johnson said.
He praised President Trump for taking action in defense of pro-life advocates, noting his recent pardoning of nearly two dozen wrongfully imprisoned activists.
“This new White House has already shown its resolve,” Johnson said.
“As one of his first official acts, President Trump just freed and pardoned nearly two dozen wrongfully imprisoned pro-life activists.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also delivered remarks, calling on attendees to push their elected officials to demonstrate courage in defending the unborn.
“The sanctity of life does not depend on poll results. It doesn’t depend on which way the wind is blowing,” DeSantis said.
“It’s an enduring truth, and it represents the foundation of our society.”

The event featured appearances from a range of Republican leaders, including Senators John Thune (S.D.), James Lankford (Okla.), Katie Britt (Ala.), Joni Ernst (Iowa), Cindy Hyde-Smith (Miss.), and Pete Ricketts (Neb.).
