Vice President J.D. Vance called out pro-Ukrainian protesters Saturday for screaming as they chased him down on a walk with his 3-year-old daughter, Mirabel.
“Today while walking my 3 year old daughter a group of ‘Slava Ukraini’ protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared,” Vance wrote on X.

I decided to speak with the protesters in the hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them…

Vance confronted the protesters in an interaction that was captured on video by WCPO 9. As Ukrainian flag-waving activists complained to the vice president that “people are dying,” he calmly and collectively spoke to their concerns about Russia and a hopeful end to the war. “Russia certainly invaded Ukraine in 2022, but there needs to be a settlement,” Vance told the protesters as one woman began to shout over him. More protesters joined in as Vance explained that he was trying to be respectful, shouting that the vice president has “no integrity.”
“Ma’am, I am with my 3-year-old daughter now, and I told you, I would talk to you for five minutes,” Vance said in the video, adding that he did not take his child out “have people run around and yell at her.”
Vance went on to explain in his X post that he engaged with the protesters in hopes that they would leave him and his daughter alone.
“It was a mostly respectful conversation, but if you’re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a shit person,” Vance added.
Vance’s unpleasant encounter with pro-Ukraine activists came more than one week after he and President Donald Trump argued with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in front of the American media on Feb. 28.
During the exchange, Vance criticized Zelenskyy’s apparent lack of gratitude for U.S. support in its war against Russia. After Trump slammed Zelenskyy for “disrespecting” the U.S., Vance pointedly asked, “Have you said thank you once?”
