The Trump administration’s new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China are set to take effect tomorrow, sparking discussions about potential retaliation from affected countries.

However, Senator JD Vance argues that retaliation has already been happening for decades, as these nations have repeatedly taken advantage of America’s economy, workers, and security.

During an interview on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, Vance emphasized that President Trump’s tariffs are a long-overdue response to unfair trade practices, illegal trafficking, and economic exploitation.

Bartiromo opened the discussion by asking about the possibility of pushback from Canada, Mexico, and China.

“These tariffs will go into effect tomorrow, 25% on Canada and Mexico, 10% on China. Are you expecting retaliation?” Bartiromo asked.

Vance dismissed concerns over retaliation, arguing that these countries have been exploiting the U.S. for years.

“We’ll see what happens. But I think, unfortunately, the retaliation has already happened. The problem with this whole idea that they’re going to retaliate is they have already been taking advantage of America for decades,” Vance said.

He explained that Trump’s actions are not about escalating conflict but about finally standing up to years of one-sided deals and unchecked exploitation.

“The retaliation is Donald Trump saying no more, we’re not going to be taken advantage of anymore. And I think it’s important the President is doing what he’s doing now,” he continued.

Vance pointed to Mexico’s role in facilitating illegal activities that harm American communities.

“Look, it looks different ways and comes in different forms, whether you’re talking about Canada or China or Mexico. We know that Mexico has allowed the facilitation of the illegal drug trade and illegal sex trafficking for years, and has done nothing about it,” he said.

He stressed that if Mexico wants to be a reliable trade partner, it must take immediate action to curb these problems.

“If they want to be a better partner to us, the time starts now,” he declared.

Turning to China, Vance highlighted the long history of economic manipulation and its role in the fentanyl crisis.

“We know the Chinese, of course, have stolen American manufacturing jobs for 30, 40 years, and also that they facilitated the trafficking of illegal fentanyl in New Mexico, where the drug cartels then bring in your country,” Vance explained.

China’s theft of American jobs and its involvement in the fentanyl trade, he argued, have had devastating effects on U.S. workers and communities.

Vance underscored that Trump’s actions reflect a broader shift in U.S. policy—one that prioritizes American interests and workers over foreign exploitation.

“We are sick of being taken advantage of. We still have, thank God, the biggest economy in the entire world, the best people and the best workers. But the message from President Trump to the entire world is very clear: we are done being taken advantage of,” Vance stated.

He praised Trump’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of having a president who prioritizes American citizens.

“We have a president who looks out for the interest of American citizens. Thank God we do, and we’re going to try to do it the best we can,” Vance concluded.
