Vice President J.D. Vance joined Bluesky yesterday and the results were about what you’d expect. His first three posts clearly seemed like an effort to troll the far left denizens of the site.
The responses to Vance were exactly what you would expect. First his account was taken down just minutes after he made his first post.
Within 12 minutes of the post, and Vance announcing on X that he had joined the platform, his Bluesky account was suspended, according to Axios journalist Marc Caputo.
“Not found. Account has been suspended,” read a message on Vance’s Bluesky page.
The ban was brief, as the vice president’s account was reinstated just minutes later…
“Don’t just block. Report the account and the posts,” one person fumed.
Another noted that they had “reported” the vice president’s post “for misinformation.”
Despite the clear signs of a progressive immunity reaction, Bluesky claimed the account had not been taken down because it was reported but because of some automated system.
In a statement to Newsweek Wednesday evening, a spokesperson for the platform said Vance’s account was removed because Bluesky’s system flagged it as a potential impostor.
“Vice President Vance’s account was briefly flagged by our automated systems that try to detect impersonation attempts which have targeted public figures like him in the past,” Bluesky said in its statement. “The account was quickly restored and verified so people can easily confirm its authenticity.”
“We welcome the Vice President to join the conversation on Bluesky,” the company said.
So after about 20 minutes his account was restored and the people of Bluesky did their thing:
This is all without diving into the real cesspit of responses that are hidden as “Rude.” A few examples.
Anyway, you get the idea. After having his account disabled and then restored, he quickly became the most blocked person on the platform.
Vice President JD Vance’s attempt to join Bluesky failed terribly. His debut on Bluesky did not unfold as expected, as within minutes of joining, JD Vance became the most blocked individual on the platform…
Over 55,000 users blocked him shortly after signing up, as per a report by ClearSky, a third-party tool that monitors Bluesky user activity. His account was temporarily suspended by the platform’s automated system.
I don’t think his joining the site was a failure at all. It demonstrated, once again, that Bluesky is a hateful, intolerant bubble made up of angry progressives who can’t stand to hear any opinion they disagree with. That’s not true of all of them of course. Vance’s posts did get a couple thousand likes and he did have a few defenders. Still, being blocked 55,000 times in a day is a pretty clear sign a lot of people on Bluesky have really thin skin.
