JD Vance has been a favorite target for left-wing memes, but rather than being rattled, he’s taken the humor in stride—turning an attempted attack into a viral success.
One of the most well-known memes featuring Vance is his signature side-eye expression, a reaction he displayed multiple times on Tuesday as Democrats disrupted President Donald Trump’s Joint Address to Congress.

Elon Musk Called This Financial News ‘Terrifying’
While the left has attempted to use memes to mock him, conservatives quickly took the trend back, embracing the humor in a way that left-wing activists hadn’t anticipated.
The latest meme frenzy followed a tense exchange in the Oval Office between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In response, left-wing social media users attempted to circulate memes portraying Vance in a negative light. However, their efforts backfired when conservatives not only leaned into the trend but amplified it.

Vance himself didn’t just brush off the memes—he embraced them. The Blaze reporter Julio Rosas spoke with Vance and revealed that the Ohio senator found the whole trend amusing.
“JD thought it was a funny trend,” Rosas reported, effectively shutting down speculation that Vance would be bothered by the online jokes.

The reaction reportedly derailed a planned Slate article that had claimed the memes must be “simply devastating” for him.
The idea that a few internet memes would rattle Vance, a Marine veteran, seemed out of touch to many observers.
Not only has Vance been part of the meme culture himself, but he’s also known for having a thick skin—something his critics apparently failed to consider.
Instead of being on the defensive, Vance took things a step further on Saturday, joining in on the joke by posting his own response on social media.

His post was met with enthusiasm from supporters, many of whom praised him for being “the most relatable vice president ever.”
The attempt to brand Vance as “weird” seemed to fall flat, especially as his ability to engage with the meme culture resonated with the public.
Many noted the contrast between his response and how figures like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, or Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz might have reacted. Harris, known for her long-winded, often confusing explanations, would likely have responded with a word salad.
Biden, on the other hand, might have dismissed the conversation altogether with a “Come on, man.” And Walz—well, his infamous “jazz hands” moment speaks for itself.
The Democratic Party’s inability to engage with humor has long been a weak spot, as many of their figures struggle to connect with everyday Americans.
The Slate writer’s insistence that the memes would somehow devastate Vance highlighted a common miscalculation from the left—they don’t understand that attacking a rising conservative leader often has the opposite effect.
Rather than damage his image, their efforts have only increased Vance’s popularity, reinforcing his status as a major political force heading into 2028.
As Democrats continue their attempts to paint their opponents as out of touch, they may want to reconsider their strategy—especially when their own leaders seem far less relatable.
Meanwhile, conservatives are celebrating the fact that Joe Biden is spending more time at the beach in Delaware and Kamala Harris is off somewhere in California, while figures like Vance are connecting with the voters they’ve left behind.
