House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan is digging into an FBI failure that many Americans haven’t forgotten — the botched 2010 sting operation tied to the Natalee Holloway case.

Speaking to Newsmax’s Greta Van Susteren, the Ohio Republican didn’t hold back as he announced a new push to get answers from the FBI under new leadership.

Jordan has officially requested documents from FBI Director Kash Patel regarding the operation that allowed Joran van der Sloot — Holloway’s suspected killer — to slip through the cracks, even though agents claimed they had him under constant surveillance.

“I think we’re going to get the information,” Jordan said, noting the stark contrast between the current FBI director and his predecessor.

“They’re running a sting operation, and they lose track of the bad guy. You want to know how did that happen—or more importantly, why didn’t you just arrest the guy once the crime of extortion was obviously done and completed?”

Van der Sloot had tried to extort $250,000 from Beth Holloway, Natalee’s mother, in exchange for the location of her daughter’s remains and details about her death. In response, the FBI set up a sting in Aruba.

After receiving a down payment, the agency assured Holloway’s legal team that van der Sloot was under 24/7 surveillance. But somehow, he managed to flee the island, land in Peru, and murder another young woman, 21-year-old Stephany Flores, just two weeks later.

It’s not just a case of bureaucratic blunder — it’s an outright embarrassment. Van der Sloot’s escape while supposedly under tight FBI watch raises serious questions about who dropped the ball and why no one was held accountable.

Jordan had previously tried to obtain these documents under the Biden administration, but those efforts were ignored, predictably.

Now, with Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi in charge, the atmosphere is “night and day” compared to the days of Christopher Wray and Merrick Garland.

“We sent subpoenas to Kash three-and-a-half weeks ago on a number of other issues. They’ve been complying, giving us the information. Let’s hope we can get the same response here.”

Van der Sloot is now serving a 28-year sentence in Peru for the Flores murder. In 2023, he was extradited to the U.S. to face extortion and wire fraud charges and eventually admitted to killing Natalee Holloway.

Despite the confession, he wasn’t charged in her death. Under a plea deal, his 20-year U.S. sentence runs concurrently with his Peruvian prison term.

Jordan’s letter gives the FBI until April 9 to turn over all relevant documents tied to the botched sting and the surveillance that clearly failed.

“I expect that,” Jordan added. “They’ve been tremendous in helping us get answers to the questions that Americans have.”

This isn’t just about one case — it’s about a federal agency that owes the American people accountability. And Rep. Jordan is making sure they don’t skate by without giving it.
