Jimmy Kimmel Being Suspended is How ‘Democracy Dies’ [WATCH]

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz criticized ABC’s suspension of comedian Jimmy Kimmel, calling the decision authoritarian and politically motivated during an appearance on MSNBC’s All In on Thursday.

Walz described the move as “North Korea-style stuff,” saying it represented a dangerous precedent for democracy.

“If you ever wonder how democracy dies this is it. It’s one of the most outrageous affronts on this. This is North Korea-style stuff,” Walz said.

The Democratic governor argued that the suspension was the result of political pressure.

“And it’s being done because this is a weak, thin skinned man who’s failing as a president. All of the things he promised are not happening. And this is exactly what dictators do,” Walz continued.

He framed the issue as one of free expression, saying that the ability to criticize leaders is “our most cherished freedom.”

He added that comedians should not face suspension for criticizing political figures, even if their comments are controversial.

“It’s our most cherished freedom to point out very clearly, this is a terrible president and a terrible human being who is doing nothing to improve the lives of Minnesotans,” Walz said.

Walz also accused President Donald Trump of operating under a double standard when it comes to addressing political violence and threats.

He referenced the recent killing of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, who died in a politically motivated attack.

“I just want to be very clear, there is no place for political violence, and we condemn it,” Walz said.

“But I would like to see the notice of how this is being approached and how my dear friend Melissa Hortman’s murder in a political attack was handled.”

The governor also pointed to commentary on conservative media outlets as an example of what he views as inflammatory speech that does not face the same consequences.

“We see a Fox News host on air talk about killing homeless people,” Walz said.

He concluded his remarks by saying he was not surprised by the suspension or the circumstances surrounding it.

“None of this surprises me with Donald Trump,” Walz added.

ABC announced the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night program following his controversial remarks about the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

The network, owned by Disney, made the decision amid growing scrutiny over broadcast standards and potential regulatory complications tied to federal oversight of public airwaves.
