Jimmy Kimmel returned to late-night Tuesday after a five-day suspension with a weepy — and lackluster — opening monologue.
Kimmel choked up when mentioning Charlie Kirk’s murder: “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man.”
“I am a person who gets a lot of threats,” Kimmel claimed. Amid all the self-pity, the late night host failed to mention the bullets fired at an ABC affiliate station Friday afternoon in Sacramento.
Jimmy Kimmel’s exact words…
7 Days Ago: ‘the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than ONE OF THEM.’
Today: ‘I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents ANYONE.’
Sick Liar.

There is “circumstantial evidence” that the man accused of shooting up the station, 64-year-old Anibal Hernandez Santana, had “a political motive behind” the shooting, Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho said, according to The Guardian. The accused shooter “chose a very particular target, and with the notes that he left behind and the target in place and the recent dismissal of the Jimmy Kimmel show, I think there’s circumstantial evidence there to show that this was politically motivated crime by this individual,” Ho said, according to NBC News.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live” is broadcast on ABC.
Law enforcement found a handwritten note in Hernandez Santana’s car reading, “For hiding Epstein & ignoring red flags. Do not support Patel, Bongino, & AG Pam Bondi. They’re next. – C.K. from above,” according to a press release.
Ho believes the shooting was a “premeditated attack,” CapRadio reports.
“My office will prosecute this case to ensure full accountability and send a clear message: violence, intimidation and attacks on a free press have no place in our community or society at large,” Ho reportedly stated.
No thoughts on the politics of the alleged shooter, Kimmel?
Kimmel’s post-suspension monologue was drenched in far more emotion than his Sept. 11 monologue immediately following Kirk’s death. Some of that emotion was reserved for Kirk. Ostensibly. Kimmel praised Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, for her remarks at Kirk’s funeral.
Kimmel spent most of his monologue lamenting his own troubles.
“I heard from late night hosts in other countries — from Ireland and from Germany. The guy in Germany offered me a job. Can you imagine? This country has become so authoritarian the Germans are like, ‘Come here’!”
Remember when I was cancelled & held back tears on the air & Kimmel stood up for me saying “All she did was ask a Q about blackface Halloween costumes, whereas I, Jimmy, have actually worn blackface many times & still have a show! This is wrong!”

Kimmel admits he took “our freedom to speak” for granted, “until they pulled my friend Stephen [Colbert] off the air, and tried to coerce the affiliates who run our show in the cities that you live in to take my show off the air. That’s not legal, that’s not American. That is un-American, and it is so dangerous.”
Colbert’s show was “on the trajectory of losing more than the $40 to $50 million it lost last year,” according to the New York Post, citing anonymous sources. A Paramount spokesman reportedly told the outlet Colbert is not currently losing more than $50 million annually.
“I get many ugly and scary threats against my life, my wife, my kids, my co-workers, because of what I choose to say, and I know those threats don’t come from the kind of people on the right who I know and love, so, that’s what I wanted to say on that subject. But I don’t want to make this about me, because — and I know this is what people say when they make things about them — but I really don’t.” (RELATED: Jimmy Kimmel Owes New Career To Donald Trump And His Administration)
Kimmel doesn’t want to make it about himself. He’s going to do so anyway, in true celebrity fashion.
Politics and personality aside — Isn’t late night supposed to be funny?
Still waiting on that from Kimmel.
