Former President Joe Biden kept offering to testify in his son’s federal gun trial in Delaware, a new book alleged.
Despite international trips and an upcoming presidential debate, Biden repeatedly suggested that he should testify at Hunter Biden’s federal gun trial in June 2024, Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper’s new book “Original Sin” alleges, according to Axios. The book is based off of over 200 interviews, mostly with Democratic Party insiders. (RELATED: Jill Biden Reportedly Racks Up Huge Bill Jetting From France To Hunter’s Trial)
“The weekend before the trial began, Biden again offered to testify or come to court, despite his packed schedule,” the authors write.
Special counsel David Weiss charged Hunter Biden in September 2023 in connection with his acquisition of a Colt Cobra revolver in October 2018. Weiss accused Hunter of knowingly possessing the gun while facing a drug addiction and making false statements on the purchase document. Following his June trial, Hunter was convicted on all three counts by a jury. Biden pardoned Hunter in December 2024 after months of denying he would do so.
Former first lady Jill Biden also offered to testify on Hunter’s behalf, “but she had not witnessed much of Hunter’s downturn [into addiction] in 2018; her testimony would be less useful,” Tapper and Thompson allege in their book.

Behind the scenes, the former president kept offering to testify in his son’s trial, according to the book. Before it began, Biden issued a rare statement about the matter.
“I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today,” Biden wrote in his statement. “Hunter’s resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he has brought to his recovery are inspiring to us.”
“As the President, I don’t and won’t comment on pending federal cases, but as a Dad, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength,” he continued.

Thompson and Tapper’s book, officially published on Tuesday, investigates Biden’s physical and mental decline while he was in office. As Tapper and Thompson rolled out excerpts from their book, reportedly detailing that aides were considering putting Biden in a wheelchair post-election and that the former president didn’t recognize his longtime friend George Clooney, the 82-year-old’s staff announced that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer. Doctors and cancer experts told the Daily Caller that Biden likely had cancer while he was in the White House as the type of cancer he has, in which the metastasization from prostate cancer spreads to the bones, generally takes five years or more to develop.
“It’s not credible that we are hearing of his metastatic disease for the first time because he was having difficulty urinating and they found it. That just doesn’t track,” Dr. Steven Quay, a physician, scientist and member of the American Association for Cancer Research, told the Caller.
