Former President Joe Biden is undergoing five weeks of radiation therapy to treat prostate cancer diagnosed earlier in May, according to reports.
“As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment,” a spokesperson for Biden told NBC News Saturday.
Biden, 82, has already been taking hormone medication, and this round of radiation treatment marks a new stage in his care, a source told the outlet.

In September, Biden also underwent surgery to remove skin cancer from his forehead. The procedure is known as “Mohs surgery,”which involves removing thin layers of skin until no signs of cancer remain.
In 2023, while still in office, Biden had a cancerous skin lesion removed during a routine physical, the outlet noted. At the time, his physician said no further treatment was necessary.
Biden’s office announced on May 18, in a post on X, that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that had already metastasized to the bone. (RELATED: President Trump, Melania Issue Statement On Joe Biden’s Cancer Diagnosis)
“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement read.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” the statement continued to say.
Given that his cancer had already metastasized to the bone, it’s possible that it had gone undiagnosed for years, the outlet noted.
Biden is reportedly “doing well” at this time, the outlet added.
