On Friday’s episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” podcast host Joe Rogan couldn’t help but laugh at a graph presented by Media Matters, which labeled him as “right-wing.”
The graph was part of a new study by Media Matters assessing the audience sizes of popular online shows. The study found that many of the most favored shows are “overwhelmingly right-leaning.”
During a conversation about the decline of corporate media with YouTuber Chris Williamson, Rogan commented that anything associated with masculinity is often automatically labeled as “right wing.”

Rogan then asked Williamson if he had seen the graph from the Media Matters study, which placed him on the right.
“Yes, you can’t like fast cars. You’re not allowed to. You’re not even allowed to like Teslas anymore. Which are the fastest cars,” Rogan said with amusement.
“You’re a misogynist. You’re probably racist. Maybe a Nazi. I’m gonna put a swastika in your car just to let everybody know. There was some really fucking stupid graph that someone put up of how right-wing social media and new media people dominate.”
Williamson responded by asking Rogan’s producer, Jamie Vernon, to pull up the chart on screen so they could review the names listed.

Rogan expressed his disbelief at topping the list, joking, “I was at the top of the list, and I feel like the way Caitlyn Jenner must have felt like when she won woman of the year. Like, so quick, I got to the top of the list.”
“I’m not even right-wing. Just cause I support Trump. I support him over the rest of the fucking nonsense that was going on when you’re trying to push through someone without even a primary,” Rogan continued.
He added, “I’m number one, bitch. It’s kind of funny, like they’re putting Theo Vaughn, Lex Friedman, that’s hilarious to put him in there.”
The conversation shifted as Rogan and Williamson pointed out other names and shows that appeared in the study, including British journalist Piers Morgan, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, and the comedy podcast “Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant with Akaash Singh.”
According to Media Matters’ study, 42% of the 191 “right-leaning” shows it examined fell under categories like comedy, entertainment, sports, or other non-political genres. The study also claimed that 72% of the 111 “supposedly nonpolitical shows” had a “right-leaning” ideological bent.
Williamson questioned the study’s methodology, asking, “Is it just a judgment criteria that they’re judging shows that aren’t right-wing as right-wing, or is it genuinely that for some reason the left is struggling to make progress in independent media?”
Rogan responded, “Well, they’re struggling to make progress in independent media, for sure. They’re trying to figure out why. They’re trying to figure out why these, what they are calling right-wing. I think if you looked at all my positions, I think way more of them were left-wing than right-wing.”
Rogan has repeatedly stated that he does not identify as either a Republican or a Democrat.
In past episodes of his podcast, he has described himself as an American who agrees with positions from both sides of the political spectrum.
Democrats have faced challenges in engaging with new audiences, particularly on platforms like YouTube and podcasts, following their loss in the November election.
California Governor Gavin Newsom recently launched a podcast aimed at engaging conservative listeners, with early episodes featuring guests such as TPUSA’s Charlie Kirk and former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon.
Despite these efforts, Democrats continue to grapple with low favorability ratings and difficulties in uniting their base under a cohesive message.
