Podcast host Joe Rogan criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday, taking issue with remarks the governor made as wildfires continued to devastate parts of Los Angeles County.
Rogan, host of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” described Newsom’s comments and demeanor as inappropriate, given the ongoing destruction and impact on affected families.
The wildfires, which began in the coastal town of Pacific Palisades, have spread to Altadena near Eaton Canyon.

As of Thursday, containment remained at just 6%, leaving residents grappling with the loss of homes and personal belongings.
The fires have drawn widespread attention, with officials and media closely monitoring the situation.
During a public address, Governor Newsom discussed the potential for speculators to exploit the situation in fire-stricken neighborhoods.
Newsom also mentioned conversations he had with the governor of Hawaii regarding disaster recovery strategies.
However, Rogan criticized the timing and tone of Newsom’s remarks, particularly his lighthearted demeanor during the address.
“The governor gave this creepy speech where he was talking about speculators coming in. And talking about what to do with the land of all these homes that have been burnt down. It’s still only 6% contained,” Rogan said on his podcast.
“He did this little dance like I’ve been talking with these, you know, with the governor of Hawaii about what to do. We got some ideas.”
Rogan called Newsom’s behavior “disgusting,” adding that the governor’s apparent lack of seriousness was ill-suited to the gravity of the wildfire crisis.
In addition to criticizing Newsom’s remarks, Rogan pointed to broader issues in California’s wildfire prevention and response strategies.
He specifically highlighted the state’s failure to take preventative measures such as brush clearing and reservoir management.
“The fire insurance pulled out of California like, I think, like 69% of fire insurance pulled out of California because they’re, like, this is too crazy,” Rogan said.
“You guys aren’t doing jack to manage this. You’re not clearing the brush. The amount of money they could have saved by just clearing brush. By filling the reservoir, that 11-million-gallon reservoir was completely empty during the time of full fire season. Like, why didn’t you fix that?”
Governor Newsom also faced backlash for his demeanor during a televised interview on Monday with a Los Angeles Fox affiliate.
Discussing the potential for speculators to take advantage of wildfire survivors, Newsom smiled broadly and performed a shoulder shimmy while addressing the issue.
The moment has drawn sharp criticism online, with Rogan describing the governor’s behavior as tone-deaf given the severity of the crisis.
As of now, firefighting efforts are ongoing in Los Angeles County, with first responders working to contain the wildfires and assist displaced residents.
The situation has reignited debates over California’s wildfire management policies and preparedness measures, with critics calling for better resource allocation and preventative action to mitigate future disasters.
Governor Newsom has not responded publicly to Rogan’s remarks or the growing criticism surrounding his response to the crisis.
