Was he funded by USAID? Almost certainly. He works for a state-backed TV news show that even The New York Times suggests is a propaganda outlet. The ONLY news show allowed in Ukraine, it turns out.
To be clear, that the journalist is a propagandist for Zelensky–who has given him an award for helping maintain morale in Ukraine during the war–does not mean Zelensky authorized him to call for Trump’s assassination. But it sure doesn’t look good.

Vadym Karpiac is not a nobody, by any stretch of the imagination. He is one of the major faces of the Ukrainian government’s campaign to keep citizens engaged in supporting the war effort. President Zelensky calls his work “a weapon” in the fight.
Since the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the people of Ukraine have had access to a single source of television news — an all-day broadcast packed with footage of Ukrainian tanks blasting Russian positions, medics operating near the frontline and political leaders rallying support abroad.
The show, Telemarathon United News, has been a major tool of Ukraine’s information war, praised by the government officials who regularly appear on it for its role in countering Russian disinformation and maintaining morale.
“It’s a weapon,” President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said last January of the program, which is jointly produced and broadcast 24/7 by the country’s biggest television channels.
Vadym Karpiak has been one of the hosts since the beginning of the war–the face of the propaganda effort. I can’t find information about whether he is still hosting the show as of this writing, and the New York Times story is from 2024, so there is that.
Here he is calling for the death of Trump and, apparently, unnamed others.
This, it seems, would be a diplomatic breach that the Pravda Media would perhaps want to focus on, even if it was not Zelensky himself and almost certainly was not authorized by the Ukrainian government. Having their mouthpiece muse that the President of the United States be assassinated is, shall we say, an even worse look than President Zelensky calling J.D. Vance a “bitch” in the Oval Office.
Just sayin’.
I found this bit of news at The Gateway Pundit, because of course it has been ignored by Pravda. It doesn’t fit The Narrative™, so it doesn’t get reported.

Zelensky has even reportedly awarded Karpiak with “the Order ‘For Merit’ of the 3rd degree.”

Karpiak also recently called to “Make America Great Britain Again” in another Facebook post.
As a general rule, you can say that wars bring out the best in people–Ukrainians have been incredibly brave facing down Putin–and the worst in people–attacking America, which is their major funder, and calling for the assassination of its leader when he doesn’t give everything you want.
I get that emotions are running high and that many Ukrainians feel betrayed–I believe wrongly, but certainly understand their passion–but this is grossly unacceptable.
This guy is not obscure. He is one of the faces of Ukraine’s government in the war, and one of the ONLY news sources even allowing in the country.
If Zelensky doesn’t denounce him, what are we to think? And for the crazies who will say “Trump deserves it because he isn’t doing enough to support Ukraine”–I say that you are the reason why support for the Ukraine war is plummeting in the US. We keep being told that Putin is the real threat–and I believe he IS a threat to the West–but somehow it is always our “allies” who actually threaten the US aloud.
Can you see why Trump is done with these guys? They have gone insane.
