Obama-appointed federal Judge Indira Talwani issued an injunction Monday temporarily restraining President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” from cutting funds to Planned Parenthood under Medicaid, according to court documents.
Trump officially signed the GOP’s tax and budget legislation after months of negotiations in the House and Senate, which included language blocking Medicaid funding to abortion providers for one year. Talwani, however, approved a temporary restraining order filed by Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, and Planned Parenthood Association of Utah stating that funding will still continue to be “disbursed.” (RELATED: Media Said The Big Beautiful Bill Was Dead. “Defendants, their agents, employees, appointees, successors, and anyone acting in concert or participation with Defendants shall take all steps necessary to ensure that Medicaid funding continues to be disbursed in the customary manner and timeframes to Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its members; Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts; and Planned Parenthood Association of Utah,” the order states.

Prior to the approval from Judge Talwani, PPFA filed a lawsuit Monday against Trump administration officials, including Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz, due to the alleged “targets” against the organization.
Since Trump took office for his second term, over 20 Planned Parenthood clinics have reportedly closed, with the organization warning that the bill could have a major impact nationwide.
A day before the Senate approved the bill, Planned Parenthood released a statement in June saying that if the legislation passed, “nearly 200 Planned Parenthood health centers in 24 states across the country are at risk of closure,” with an estimated “1.1 million patients without access” to their health care.
“If this unconstitutional law is not stopped, the consequences will be nothing short of a public health crisis,” the organization said in its lawsuit.
The White House, HHS and PPFA did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
