Singer Justin Timberlake has disclosed that he has been battling Lyme disease, describing the illness as “debilitating” in a statement shared with fans on Thursday via Instagram, as reported by The New York Post.
The announcement follows growing criticism of his recent tour performances and legal issues earlier in the year.

Timberlake, 44, revealed the diagnosis after wrapping up his “Forget Tomorrow” tour on Wednesday. In the post, he wrote, “Well, as these two incredible years come to an end and I look forward to the future, I wanted to write something from the heart.”
He continued, “Among other things, I’ve been battling some health issues, and was diagnosed with Lyme disease — which I don’t say so you feel bad for me –– but to shed some light on what I’ve been up against behind the scenes.”
He explained that symptoms such as nerve pain, fatigue, and illness had impacted his ability to perform. “I was shocked,” Timberlake said, “but at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or, just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness.”

Despite the diagnosis, Timberlake said he made the decision to complete the tour. “I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling,” he wrote.
“Not only did I prove my mental tenacity to myself, but I now have so many special moments with all of you that I will never forget.”
He also acknowledged that he had hesitated to disclose his health struggles publicly, citing his upbringing. “I was always raised to keep something like this to yourself,” he noted. “But I am trying to be more transparent about my struggles so that they aren’t misinterpreted.”

His wife, actress Jessica Biel, showed public support by liking the post and sharing it on her own Instagram Story. The couple has two sons, Silas, 10, and Phineas, 5.
Lyme disease, caused by Borrelia bacteria and typically transmitted via tick bites, can result in symptoms ranging from fatigue and fever to neurological issues. Other public figures previously diagnosed with the illness include Justin Bieber, Shania Twain, and Yolanda Hadid.
Timberlake’s announcement follows recent backlash from fans during the tour. At Romania’s Electric Castle festival last week, concertgoers accused the singer of barely performing, instead having the crowd sing much of his hit “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”

In February, Timberlake abruptly canceled a show in Ohio due to illness, citing the flu, but faced criticism for the late notice.
The tour, which began in April 2024, came just weeks before Timberlake was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, Long Island. He later pleaded guilty in September to a lesser charge of driving while ability impaired.
