Former Vice President Kamala Harris visited Broadway on Sunday, giving a world salad of a speech in an attempt to inspire actors worried about Trump’s administration.
“And the way that I see it also is that, when we think about these moments where we see things that are being taken, but also let’s see it, you know, nature abhors a vacuum. So where, so where there’s a vacancy, let’s fill it, right?” Harris begins after a cast member of the Broadway show, “A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical” tells her that his spirit is tired.
“And let’s know that the reality is that the progress of our nation has always been about the expansion of rights, not the restriction of rights. We’re seeing a U-turn right now, but we have to keep fighting for those rights to be maintained, which means we have to be vigilant, and it’s just the nature of it,” the vice president continues in an Instagram video posted by a member of the show.
The video cuts to different angles of Harris during her speech, showing the play’s cast surrounding her. With each line, the cast murmurs in support for the vice president.
“We have to be clear-eyed. And it doesn’t mean we don’t see the beauty in everything. These things all co-exist, but I believe we fight for something, not against something,” Harris says, with her husband behind her, to conclude her remarks. The cast thanked the vice president while nodding in agreement.

Since losing the 2024 election to Trump, Harris’ political future has remained in limbo. In the immediate aftermath of the election, the former vice president told her aides to keep her options open — whether it be a run for California governor or president — while she takes some time to think, five people in Harris’ inner circle told Politico. “There will be a desire to hear her voice, and there won’t be a vacuum for long,” a person close to Harris told Politico as it was reported that her staff was crafting a message for the former vice president going forward.
Trump’s Special Missions Envoy Ric Grennell told reporters on Friday that if Harris made a run for California governor, he would consider entering the race.
“If Kamala Harris runs for governor… It’s a new day in California and that the Republican actually has a shot, and I wouldn’t say no,” Grenell said.
Meanwhile, some of Harris’ campaign advisers have started to land on their feet following the election loss. David Plouffe, a former senior political adviser to Barack Obama who was brought on as a senior adviser to Harris, appears to have a new foreign lobbying gig, according to documents filed under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). Plouffe registered on Feb. 9 to be a consultant with Precision Strategies, LLC. to work with an Indonesian group, the FARA documents show.
