Former Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to make an error about transgender murders in her new book.
Harris published a book in September titled “107 Days,” which detailed her short time on the campaign trail. Harris writes that 350 transgender individuals were murdered in America during 2024. Fifteen of those, she writes, were kids. The Daily Caller was unable to find the statistic Harris cited, and it appears the former vice president confused the statistics with worldwide numbers.
New from me: Kamala Harris says in her book that 350 trans people were killed in the U.S. in 2024. An in-depth investigation (2 minutes on of Google) show that she lifted this figure from a report of *worldwide* deaths of trans people. U.S. figure is roughly 41.… pic.twitter.com/s2gI5WFlFd

Transgender Europe released their annual Trans Murder Monitoring project in November 2024, reporting that from the time of their last report in November 2023, 350 transgender people had been killed worldwide. Of those, 15 were under 18 years old. The figures match the numbers Harris cited, though the former vice president claims the statistics are from America, not globally.
Transgender Europe claimed that 41 transgender people were murdered in America from October 2023 to September 2024.
The Human Rights Campaign also released a report in November 2024, reporting that from November 2023 to November 2024, 36 transgender and “gender-expansive” people in the U.S. lost their lives to “fatal violence.”
Harris’ publisher did not immediately respond to the Caller’s request for comment.

Harris’ book details the moments leading up to former President Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and the 107 days the former vice president spent on the campaign trail. In her book, Harris explains why she chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to be her running mate, citing his desire to support her rather than overshadow her. The former vice president also revealed more intimate details, discussing a fight she and her husband got in on the campaign trail.
“Throughout the flight, I was looking forward to a special evening with Doug. Though we were apart a lot those days, campaigning in different cities, for my birthday our staff conspired so that we’d meet up in Philadelphia,” Harris recalls about her 60th birthday during the 2024 election.
“I was wondering what he’d planned for our evening. The simple answer: Nothing. Not a thing,” she writes.
