Kamala Harris is playing coy about her political future, but let’s be honest—does anyone believe she’s just going to disappear?
As reported by Fox News, speculation is running wild that she’s eyeing a 2026 run for California governor, but when pressed, the former vice president kept her answers vague, dodging like a seasoned D.C. politician.
Harris has been mostly absent from the national stage since President Donald Trump’s inauguration, only making a brief public appearance on January 20 when she toured wildfire damage in Altadena, California.

On Thursday, she resurfaced to assess the aftermath of the Palisades Fire, visiting a Red Cross shelter and speaking with displaced residents. Reporters naturally wanted to know what’s next for her, but Harris wasn’t giving up any secrets.
“I have been home for two weeks and three days. My plans are to be in touch with my community, to be in touch with the leaders and figure out what I can do to support them.”
Translation? She’s testing the waters, waiting for the right moment to announce.
Fox 11 LA pressed her on whether she’d be running for office again. Harris played the noncommittal game, responding, “I would be here no matter what office I hold because it is the right thing to do.”
That’s not a ‘no,’ and we all know what that usually means in political speak.
Though Harris hasn’t publicly weighed in on President Trump’s handling of California’s wildfire recovery efforts, a Harris advisor told Fox 11 that the two have spoken multiple times behind closed doors.

What exactly they discussed remains a mystery, but given her track record, it’s safe to assume she wasn’t offering praise.
Later that evening, Harris and her husband, former second gentleman Doug Emhoff, were spotted at a Los Angeles Lakers-Golden State Warriors game at Crypto.com Arena. Nothing screams “man of the people” like courtside seats at an NBA game.
After her humiliating loss to Trump in 2024, Harris assured her inner circle she wasn’t disappearing. During the traditional post-election desk drawer signing ceremony, she reportedly told staff she would not “go quietly into the night,” adding, “our work is not done.”
“It is not my nature to go quietly into the night. So, don’t worry about that.”

That’s Hillary Clinton-level determination right there.
Speaking of Clinton, New York Magazine recently reported that Harris has been seeking advice from the former secretary of state, who famously failed in her own bid to defeat Trump. Because when you need guidance on how to bounce back from an election disaster, why not go to the expert?
Before joining Biden’s ticket in 2020, Harris served as California’s senator and was the state’s attorney general. Her deep political roots in California make a gubernatorial run seem likely, especially since Gavin Newsom is term-limited and will be vacating the office in 2026.
While some speculate she might make another White House bid, her last two attempts didn’t exactly inspire confidence.

Harris’ first presidential campaign in 2019 ended in failure before the first primary votes were even cast. Her second attempt came after Biden abruptly dropped out of the 2024 race and endorsed her.
That campaign? Another disaster, as Trump steamrolled her in both the Electoral College and the popular vote.
For now, Harris is staying tight-lipped about her next move, but anyone betting against her angling for California’s top job might want to reconsider.
