Kanye West deactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday after posting a series of controversial messages throughout Super Bowl LIX, including remarks about Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, and accusations of shadow banning by Elon Musk.
West, 47, claimed he was in a “good space” mentally, despite the backlash his tweets received.
In his final message before deactivating, he wrote, “It has been very cathartic to use the world as a sounding board.”

During the Super Bowl, West referenced his longtime feud with Swift, criticizing her appearance at last week’s Grammys, where she was seen dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s song Not Like Us, a diss track aimed at Drake.
“IF ITS ABOUT THE CULTURE … WHY ARE WE LETTING TAYLOR SWIFT BE SEEN ON TV SINGING A SONG ABOUT TAKING A BLACK MAN DOWN AND ACCUSING OF THINGS THAT CAN TAKE A BLACK MAN DOWN FOR LIFE,” West tweeted.
West also targeted Lamar, who headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show, writing, “KENDRICK IS BEING USED BY THESE WHITE PEOPLE AND JEWS AND SO AM I.”
West and Swift’s highly publicized feud dates back to the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video.

While their relationship appeared to improve in the following years, tensions reignited in 2016 after West released the song Famous, in which he referred to Swift in a derogatory manner.
Swift denied giving West permission for the lyrics, despite West and his then-wife Kim Kardashian releasing a phone call where they claimed she had approved.
Kardashian later mocked Swift on social media, calling her a “snake.”
West’s Super Bowl tweets sparked widespread criticism, with social media users and celebrities calling them racist, sexist, and inflammatory.
Amid the backlash, West posted a video insisting he was not in crisis.
“I know you’re all thinking I’m going something through right now and I’ve got bags under my eyes and s***,” he said. “I wouldn’t want nobody to like, do an intervention on me—that’s why I wanted to put this video up.”
West insisted he had no regrets about his posts, stating, “I got my ideas out; that’s all that happened and that was very freeing for me—it was worth everything.”
Following West’s series of posts, X added a content warning to his profile, stating, “Caution: This profile may include potentially sensitive content.”
West responded to the disclaimer, directly addressing Musk: “AS I TWEET IN CODE WORDS AND KISS ELONS A** AND BEG HIM TO NOT CANCEL MY ACCOUNT.”
Later, West suggested that Musk was limiting his reach, writing, “MY TWITTER REACH HAS BEEN LIMITED SO I AM NOT ALLOWED TO TREND DURING SUPER BOWL.”
He announced that he would set up a Discord channel on his website as an alternative.
By Sunday evening, West announced he was logging out of X.
A subsequent search of his handle confirmed that his account had been deactivated.
In his final tweet, West acknowledged Musk, writing, “I appreciate Elon for allowing me to vent. It has been very cathartic to use the world as a sounding board.”

Milo Yiannopoulos, who manages West under his company Tarantula, confirmed that West’s departure was voluntary.
“Ye has deactivated his X account for the time being,” Yiannopoulos posted.

He also clarified to Daily Mail, “We just want to be clear he deactivated and was not banned.”
Before deactivating, West commented on fellow rapper Kodak Black, saying he had seen a video of Black wearing a chain from West’s Donda fashion line. West took it as a sign to board a flight to Florida to check on him.
West also mentioned other artists in his final round of tweets, including Travis Scott, R. Kelly, and Sean “Diddy” Combs.
With his X account now offline, it remains to be seen if and when West will return to the platform.
