As White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt continues to take on the media in daily briefings, former CNN anchor Jim Acosta is attempting to reestablish himself after parting ways with the struggling network.
Acosta, who refused to accept a late-night time slot during CNN’s lineup shakeup earlier this year, has since launched a Substack newsletter and taken to the podcast circuit to promote it.
During a recent appearance on the Meidas Touch podcast, Acosta took aim at Leavitt, dismissing her as a “kid” and suggesting she was working her way onto what he called “Trump’s all-star team of liars.”

“She might be on the bench right now, but if she keeps working hard, she does her homework, she just might make it onto the team,” Acosta said.
He went on to compare Leavitt’s statements to a child telling exaggerated stories.
“It’s sort of like… when your kid is telling you a tall tale, and you’re just looking at them like, ‘Okay Johnny, sure, yeah, I believe you,’” Acosta continued.
“And you just walk away saying, ‘What the hell. That kid’s not telling me the truth.’”

Acosta also claimed that Leavitt was competing to outdo former Trump administration press secretaries.
“It’s hard to see somebody out-Spicer Sean Spicer or out-Huckabee Sarah Huckabee Sanders, but Karoline Leavitt—she’s making a run for it,” he said.

Leavitt was on the main stage at CPAC on Friday for an interview when Acosta’s comments were brought up.
She responded directly to the former CNN correspondent’s remarks.
“,” Leavitt said.

“He’s been saying some not-so-nice things about me online — and I’ve resisted responding, but since you brought him up, I’d like to say, ‘Jim, at least I have a job.’”

Acosta, who built his reputation during the Trump administration by frequently clashing with officials in the briefing room, saw his influence diminish after Biden took office.
His departure from CNN came as the network faced ongoing ratings struggles and a series of programming shakeups.
In contrast, Leavitt has quickly risen as a key figure in the Trump White House, frequently pushing back against the Biden-friendly media during press briefings.
Since leaving CNN, Acosta has followed the path of other former mainstream media personalities by launching a subscription-based newsletter and appearing on left-wing podcasts.
He has spoken with figures such as Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson and hosts of Meidas Touch, a podcast known for its partisan commentary.
Acosta has long been a polarizing figure in political media, with his confrontational style earning praise from liberal circles but criticism from conservatives who view him as an activist rather than a journalist.
His latest remarks targeting Leavitt come as he attempts to remain relevant in an evolving media landscape.
Leavitt, meanwhile, has continued to cement her role as a leading voice in the Trump administration, standing firm in the face of media criticism.
