White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized several major media outlets for what she described as inaccurate reporting about the administration’s handling of recent developments involving Iran and U.S. military operations.

Leavitt addressed the issue while discussing coverage of the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and reports about potential security threats involving Iran.

According to Leavitt, the White House has been working continuously to communicate details about the administration’s response and the outcome of recent military operations.

“We’ve been working 24/7 here at the White House to make sure the American people understand how much of a tremendous success this operation has been over the past two weeks,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt said some media reports relied heavily on anonymous sources and did not include confirmation from officials directly involved in the decision-making process.

“And it is abhorrent some of the stories that are coming from the mainstream media and these reporters run these anonymous sources as gospel truth without checking with the people who are actually in the room,” Leavitt said.

One example she cited involved a report from CNN that she said incorrectly suggested the administration had not adequately planned for the possibility that Iran might close the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping lane for global energy supplies.

“And I’m speaking about a CNN story alleging that the administration was ill prepared for the closure of the Strait of Vermouth,” Leavitt said.

“That is unequivocally false.”

Leavitt said planning for that possibility had been incorporated into the Pentagon’s operational strategy.

“Let me be clear, the Pentagon has been accounting for this in their planning of this operation since the very beginning, and the administration is taking tangible steps to address it,” Leavitt said.

She added that the network later issued a correction to the report following her response.

“CNN issued a correction on that story after I called them and spent nearly an hour on the phone rebutting it,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt also referenced a report from ABC News involving intelligence about a possible Iranian drone attack targeting the West Coast of the United States. According to Leavitt, the report relied on information that had not been verified.

“ABC News using unverified, non credible tips from anonymous tipsters to scare people in California that Iran was allegedly plotting to attack the coast of California with drones, again, based on unverified intelligence,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt said the report did not initially include that detail.

“They left that word unverified out of their story purposely,” Leavitt said.

She said the network later corrected the report.

“And we forced them to issue a correction,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt urged viewers and readers to approach media reports carefully and verify information before accepting claims about national security developments.

“So your audience needs to be mindful of what they are reading,” Leavitt said.

She also referenced coverage in the New York Times, arguing that some reports created a misleading impression of the balance between the United States and Iran during the ongoing situation.

“And if you picked up the New York Times, you think that Iran is crushing the United States,” Leavitt said.

“It is quite the opposite.”

WATCH:

Leavitt’s comments come as tensions involving Iran and U.S. military operations continue to receive extensive media coverage.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical maritime route for global oil shipments, and developments involving the region often draw attention from international news organizations.

White House officials have continued to address questions about operational planning, intelligence reports, and military strategy as the situation unfolds.

Leavitt’s remarks focused on the role of media coverage and the accuracy of reports related to national security developments involving Iran.
