FBI Director Kash Patel announced Friday that the agency is working with local law enforcement to investigate and prevent swatting incidents targeting media figures.
Patel addressed the issue in a statement on the social media platform X, highlighting what he called an “alarming rise” in the dangerous practice, which involves making false emergency reports to prompt an armed law enforcement response at a target’s home.
“I want to address the alarming rise in ‘Swatting’ incidents targeting media figures,” Patel wrote.
“The FBI is aware of this dangerous trend, and my team and I are already taking action to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.”

Reports indicate that several high-profile individuals have been victims of swatting in recent days.
Among them are radio show host Joe Pagliarulo and social media influencer Gunther Eagleman, both of whom have shared their experiences publicly, according to Newsweek.
Yes — my family and I were swatted. This is how it went down. Including the video I saw on my front door camera at 2:35am. How would you have reacted?

Patel made it clear that the FBI is treating these incidents as a serious threat, emphasizing that the misuse of law enforcement resources for political or personal harassment will not be tolerated.
“This isn’t about politics – weaponizing law enforcement against ANY American is not only morally reprehensible but also endangers lives, including those of our officers,” Patel stated.
“That will not be tolerated. We are fully committed to working with local law enforcement to crack down on these crimes.”

This isn’t about politics—weaponizing law enforcement…

The director did not provide specifics on ongoing investigations but assured the public that updates would be forthcoming.
Swatting incidents have become an increasing concern in recent years, often targeting public figures, political commentators, and online influencers.
The hoaxes can lead to dangerous confrontations between law enforcement and unsuspecting victims, with past cases resulting in injuries and, in some instances, fatalities.
Local and federal law enforcement agencies have struggled to curb the trend due to the anonymous nature of many of the calls, which are often made using internet-based services or overseas networks.
However, Patel’s statement signals a renewed focus by the FBI on addressing the issue at a national level.
The agency’s commitment to coordinating with local law enforcement suggests a broader effort to implement stronger investigative measures and track down those responsible for orchestrating these false emergency calls.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are expected to increase efforts to identify and prosecute individuals behind the swatting incidents.
Patel’s statement marks a strong stance by federal authorities against what has become a dangerous and disruptive tactic targeting public figures.
