Pop sensation Katy Perry is no stranger to the spotlight, but recent months have tested her in deeply personal and public ways.
On Tuesday night, those emotional wounds were on full display as Perry abruptly paused her concert in Los Angeles, overcome with emotion over her highly publicized split from actor Orlando Bloom.
The incident occurred at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, during a stop on Perry’s “Lifetimes” tour.

The show had been proceeding smoothly until the “Choose Your Own Adventure” segment—a unique part of her concerts where fans vote on which song Perry should perform.
When the audience selected “Not Like the Movies,” a heart-wrenching ballad about broken dreams and lost love, Perry appeared visibly shaken.
“You’re gonna make me sing this song in this time in my life?” she asked the crowd, clearly stunned by the choice.
“OK, we’ll do it! Because you voted for it,” Perry continued, attempting to put on a brave face. She went on to reveal that fans had also voted for “The One That Got Away,” another deeply emotional song from her 2010 Teenage Dream album.

“I let you choose the song tonight because I like to pick an album for every country that I go to and for the U.S.A., I picked Teenage Dream because U.S.A., you could be a teenage dream baby,” Perry told the audience. “You better get it together. I’ll always have that feeling for you.”
She then introduced “Not Like The Movies” with a deeply personal note: “This next song I wrote in my 20s… after my first divorce.” Perry was previously married to British comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012.
Preparing herself for the emotional toll of the performance, she added, “I’ll try and hold my composure while I sing it a week before my period.”
Despite her humorous attempt to lighten the moment, it was clear the song struck a raw nerve, and she struggled through the performance as emotion overtook her at multiple points.

A Difficult Year for Perry
This breakdown was just the latest episode in what has been an extraordinarily turbulent time for the 40-year-old star.
Back in April, Perry joined Jeff Bezos’ all-female Blue Origin crew for a brief eleven-minute space flight.
While intended as a symbol of empowerment and innovation, the trip quickly became a PR disaster. Critics across social media slammed the stunt as tone-deaf and self-indulgent, and some have even gone so far as to say that the backlash has “ruined” her career.
But the deepest blow came last month, when Perry and Orlando Bloom announced the end of their nine-year relationship.
The pair share a four-year-old daughter, Daisy, and while their split appears amicable on the surface, sources close to the couple say otherwise.
“Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,” a source told US Weekly. “It’s not contentious at the moment. Katy is of course upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.”
Despite this outward calm, insiders claimed the split was “a long time coming,” citing that things “have been tense for months.”
Bloom’s Behavior Adds Salt to the Wound
Perry’s emotional state may also be exacerbated by Bloom’s behavior in the aftermath of their breakup.
Just days after the split was made public, Bloom was seen partying in Italy during Jeff Bezos’ lavish wedding to Lauren Sanchez. Meanwhile, Perry was on the opposite side of the world, performing for fans in Australia.

According to sources close to Perry, she was hurt by Bloom’s very public embrace of single life.
“It’s disappointing,” one insider told the Daily Mail. “It’s hurtful and annoying. If he’s going to behave like an acting-up adolescent, that’s on him. She’s going to continue to work and take care of Daisy.”
“Katy knows that he’s free to do whatever the hell he wants to do. She hoped he’d do it a little more discreetly and thoughtfully,” the source added. “So she’s disappointed and sad.”
Looking Ahead
Katy Perry now faces a challenging road ahead, both personally and professionally. With public opinion still reeling from her controversial space flight and her relationship with Bloom in the rearview mirror, the pressure is mounting.
Yet, if Tuesday night’s concert is any indication, Perry remains committed to her fans and her craft—even when it hurts. She may have broken down on stage, but the vulnerability she showed only reminds the world that even pop icons bleed.
Only time will tell whether Katy Perry can rise from the ashes of a crumbling career and heartbreak, but if her past is any indication, she’s not one to stay down for long.
