White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is facing renewed scrutiny over her repeated denials of former President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline, following revelations from recent investigations and reports that suggest internal concerns over his mental acuity were more serious than previously acknowledged, as reported by Fox News.
As early as 2022, Jean-Pierre publicly dismissed questions about Biden’s mental stamina. In a June 2022 interview with then-CNN anchor Don Lemon, she appeared surprised when asked whether Biden had the stamina to complete a second term.
“That is not a question that we should be even asking,” she responded, calling reports of Biden’s cognitive decline “hearsay.”

Throughout Biden’s term, Jean-Pierre continued to push back on claims about the former president’s mental fitness.
In August 2023, she called it “ridiculous” to suggest that Biden capped his workday by 10 a.m. due to fatigue. A month later, she rejected a question implying that Biden’s staff treated him “like a baby.”
“No one treats the President of the United States, the commander in chief, like a baby.”
After Special Counsel Robert Hur declined to prosecute Biden for his handling of classified documents, citing Biden’s memory problems and advanced age, Jean-Pierre strongly objected to Hur’s remarks.

She claimed that his description of Biden as a “sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory” was “unacceptable” and “does not live in reality.”

Despite mounting concerns from within the Democratic Party and the media, Jean-Pierre continued to dismiss footage showing Biden appearing confused or frail, referring to such clips as “cheap fakes” in a June 2024 interview with MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace.
“It’s also very insulting to the folks, the viewers who are watching it,” Jean-Pierre said.
“We’ve been calling it ‘cheap fakes.’ That is something that came directly from the media outlets… fact-checkers are calling it that.”
According to the new book Original Sin by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson, senior Biden aides allegedly shielded the then-president from Cabinet members and expressed concerns about his ability to function in a second term.
The book claims that Biden often forgot names, did not recognize longtime political ally George Clooney at a 2024 fundraiser, and required significant assistance to appear in public.

After Biden’s widely criticized debate performance in June 2024 and his subsequent withdrawal from the race in July, Jean-Pierre again stood by her prior statements.
When questioned by Fox News’ Peter Doocy about whether there had been a cover-up, she responded:
“First of all, there’s been no cover-up. I want to be very clear about that.”
Jean-Pierre declined to provide further comment when contacted.
