Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem criticized congressional Democrats and members of the mainstream media on Saturday, calling out their defense of a suspected MS-13 gang member arrested and deported under the Trump administration’s ongoing crackdown on violent criminal aliens.
During an interview on Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends, Noem addressed the recent controversy surrounding Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a suspected member of the transnational MS-13 gang, who was detained by immigration authorities and later removed from the United States.
Noem expressed concern over the reaction from some lawmakers and media outlets who criticized the deportation of Abrego Garcia.

She pointed to their responses as indicative of broader priorities within the Democratic Party and its allies.
“The mainstream media, these congressmen, these senators, the Democrat Party wrapping their arms around a known human smuggler, a wife beater, a violent criminal that was finally held accountable for his actions — the fact they went to the mat for this guy shows who they are,” Noem said.
Abrego Garcia has been linked to human trafficking operations and has a documented history of domestic violence, according to Department of Homeland Security officials.
He was apprehended earlier this year during a coordinated enforcement effort led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as part of President Donald Trump’s directive to prioritize the removal of criminal non-citizens from U.S. communities.

Noem criticized those who objected to Abrego Garcia’s removal, stating their reaction exposed what she described as a failure to prioritize public safety.
“They are people who don’t put America first, they don’t care about our citizens, protecting our communities,” Noem said.
“So, I’m glad the onion has been peeled back and their true motivations have been revealed.”
MS-13, also known as Mara Salvatrucha, has been designated a transnational criminal organization by the U.S. government.
The gang has been involved in numerous violent crimes in the United States, including murder, kidnapping, and human trafficking.
The Trump administration has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to dismantling MS-13’s operations through arrests, deportations, and international cooperation with law enforcement agencies in Central America.
Noem stated that the Trump administration’s broader efforts to enhance border enforcement and remove violent criminal aliens have made American communities safer.
“This is one of the cases we’re getting off the streets,” she said.
“Since Trump has been in office, we’ve removed thousands and thousands of violent criminals, and people are safer today.”
Secretary Noem’s appearance comes amid renewed attention on immigration enforcement priorities and growing scrutiny of how elected officials respond to the criminal backgrounds of individuals facing deportation.
The Department of Homeland Security has indicated it will continue to pursue high-risk individuals involved in gang-related activity and human smuggling, in line with the Trump administration’s immigration and public safety agenda.
