The House Oversight Committee will question former U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta about Jeffrey Epstein’s 2008 plea deal and has subpoenaed Epstein’s estate for records.

Acosta, who later served as President Donald Trump’s labor secretary, is set to appear voluntarily for a transcribed interview Sept. 19. Chairman James Comer said the panel is probing the government’s handling of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell and has ordered Epstein’s estate to turn over documents by Sept. 8. “It is our understanding that the Estate of Jeffrey Epstein is in custody and control of documents that may further the Committee’s investigation and legislative goals,” Comer wrote Monday. “Further, it is our understanding the Estate is ready and willing to provide these documents to the Committee pursuant to a subpoena.”

In the subpoena, Comer said Epstein’s estate holds records critical to the probe, including the alleged “birthday book” compiled by Maxwell.

He also said the committee will accept sworn statements from former Attorneys General Alberto Gonzales, Eric Holder and Jeff Sessions, under penalty of false statements, affirming they had no knowledge of the Epstein or Maxwell cases. The three former attorneys general were previously subpoenaed for depositions after an Oversight Subcommittee vote.

The committee said Friday the Justice Department has begun turning over documents tied to Epstein.

That update followed closed-door testimony from former Attorney General William Barr, who told lawmakers last week he saw no evidence of President Donald Trump interfering in Epstein’s case or death.

Subpoenas were also issued to former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, as well as Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton.

The committee said Mueller’s subpoena will be withdrawn because health issues prevent him from testifying.

Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch was also sent a letter outlining the scope of the inquiry and how her role could intersect with knowledge of the Epstein case.
