Actress Sydney Sweeney is facing renewed scrutiny from left-wing critics after public voter records confirmed her Republican Party registration in Florida, fueling ongoing controversy over her recent American Eagle denim campaign.
According to Monroe County voter registration records obtained by The Post, the 27-year-old “Euphoria” and “White Lotus” star officially registered with the Republican Party of Florida in June 2024.
The detail, first reported Saturday by BuzzFeed News, quickly spread online after a viral post on X highlighted her affiliation.

“Was about to make a whole YouTube video exploring Sydney Sweeney’s choices — not defending her but going through her career context — and I just found out this lady is an actual registered member of the Republican Party as of 2024,” the post read.

Sweeney’s political affiliation emerged amid a growing backlash from progressive critics targeting her latest marketing campaign with American Eagle.

The campaign, which emphasizes denim and genetic wordplay, has drawn sharp criticism from activists who accuse it of promoting controversial racial imagery.
Some critics online went as far as comparing the ads to “Nazi propaganda” and accused the campaign of pushing eugenics-related themes.
The campaign includes a video in which Sweeney describes how genetic traits such as hair color and eye color are inherited from one’s parents.
She ends the segment by stating, “my jeans are blue.”
A narrator follows up with, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”
Another ad in the campaign shows Sweeney approaching a billboard featuring her image next to the words “Sydney Sweeney has great genes.”
She crosses out “genes” and replaces it with “jeans.”
American Eagle responded to the criticism in a public statement on Friday, defending both the actress and the creative direction of the campaign.
“‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans,” the statement read.
“Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

The White House also weighed in on the backlash.
President Donald Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, issued a statement late Tuesday defending Sweeney and calling out the criticism.
“This is cancel culture run amok,” Cheung posted.
Cancel culture run amok. This warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024. They’re tired of this bullshit. pic.twitter.com/He7Ji6O3VF

This is not the first time the Emmy-nominated actress has drawn ire from liberal commentators.
In 2022, Sweeney came under fire after posting photos from her mother’s 60th birthday party, where guests wore parody red hats reading “Make Sixty Great Again” and T-shirts supporting law enforcement with “Blue Lives Matter” slogans.
The event triggered outrage on social media and accusations of political messaging.
At the time, Sweeney rejected the accusations, stating that the gathering was mischaracterized and that it was never intended as a political statement.
“You guys, this is wild,” she posted.
“An innocent celebration for my mom’s milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention.”
You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone ♥️ and Happy Birthday Mom!
