Liberals Have Finally Found A Group Of Refugees They Don’t Want

Liberals are infamously undiscerning when it comes to migrants. Infinity Haitians? Sure, go for it. The worst El Salvador has to offer? Of course. Less than sixty white South Africans fleeing ongoing racial persecution? Insert buzzer error noise here. 

Fifty-nine Afrikaners, a white South African ethnic group, have reportedly arrived in the United States after being given refugee status by the Trump administration, according to the Associated Press, sparking outrage among leftists.

Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland cited his opposition to the move in a post on X: “Trump and Musk are about to give refugee status to 60 white South Africans — who do not need it — while Trump locks up and deports refugees here who face genuine dangers in other countries,” he wrote. “This is the sick global apartheid policy being adopted by this lawless administration.” Van Hollen is suddenly more than comfortable evaluating who does and who does not qualify as a real refugee. 

Van Hollen is the very same man who spearheaded the charge to rescue the poor, alleged gangbanger Kilmar Abrego-Garcia from El Salvador. You know, the sole country of which Abrego-Garcia is legally a citizen. Van Hollen flew to El Salvador to comfort Abrego-Garcia, a trip likely funded by the taxpayer dime. The senator wrote a tender message on X following his visit with the deportee, noting “I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love.” This is surely a welcome change for Jennifer, who filed domestic abuse charges against Abrego-Garcia in 2021.

Van Hollen is not alone in his selective outrage. The Episcopal Church announced it would terminate its nearly four-decades-old partnership with the federal government by the end of the fiscal year due to the incoming Afrikaners. 

“In light of our church’s steadfast commitment to racial justice and reconciliation and our historic ties with the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, we are not able to take this step,” a letter from the church’s presiding bishop, Sean Rowe, reads. “It has been painful to watch one group of refugees, selected in a highly unusual manner, receive preferential treatment over many others who have been waiting in refugee camps or dangerous conditions for years.” The entire refugee resettlement industry can be apparently put to bed just by asking them to help a particular ethnic group. This is not hypocrisy. These are not double standards. It’s a very clear statement of the left’s moral principles, which are founded on race. But if any group deserves refugee status, it’s the Afrikaners.

President Donald Trump summed up the necessity of singling out Afrikaners for refugee status. “Because they’re being killed,” he told reporters. “It’s a genocide that’s taking place, that you people don’t want to write about.” 

Indeed. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa signed a bill into law just this year allowing the state to appropriate private property without compensation, according to the BBC. Ramaphosa also signed an education bill which detractors fear will destroy Afrikaans-immersion schools. 

Worst of all are the vicious murders directed against “deserving” Afrikaners. Look no further than the infamous “Kill the Boer” chant for an example of the racial animus against white South Africans and the left-wing media’s refusal to acknowledge this fact. The New York Times characterized the song as “one of the many battle cries of the anti-apartheid movement,” noting “historians and the left-wing politician who embraces it say it should not be taken literally.” (RELATED: Libs Up In Arms When Their Own Racism Gets Shoved In Their Face)

But it often is taken literally. Mariandra Heunis is a white South African mother to four. She was widowed when her husband was shot six times, the last bullet aimed between his eyes, according to The Sunday Times.

“They took a father, they took our whole lives that night,” Mrs Heunis said to the outlet. “For nothing.”

The tale of the Afrikaners is a tragic one – and still on-going. The world has been witness to their rapid dispossession since the end of the apartheid state: the expropriation of private property, the extirpation of their language, blatant racial discrimination, and, in the worst of cases, murder. Accepting the Afrikaners is one of the most courageous acts of President Donald Trump’s second term.
