Long Island Teenager Kills Ex-Girlfriend, Survives Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound to Face

A Long Island teenager fatally shot his ex-girlfriend inside his Nesconset home on Wednesday morning before turning the gun on himself and surviving, according to Suffolk County police. The shooting occurred around 11:10 a.m., authorities said in a statement released later that day, as reported by Fox News.

Police said the 17-year-old male, whose name has not been released because of his age, shot 18-year-old Emily Finn inside the residence. Finn was pronounced dead at the scene. According to investigators, the teen then shot himself in the face.

The teen’s parents called 911 immediately after the gunfire, police said. Responding officers found Finn deceased and the 17-year-old seriously injured. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical but stable condition.

Suffolk County Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer, commanding officer of the homicide bureau, confirmed to Greater Long Island that Finn had gone to the home to return belongings after the pair recently ended their relationship.

Finn had graduated from Sayville High School in June.

Police said the teen will be charged with second-degree murder and arraigned at a later date once his medical condition allows.

Authorities added that there was no prior “domestic history” between the two and no past 911 calls involving either teen at the Nesconset home.

Neighbors described the family as active in the community and expressed disbelief at the incident.

One neighbor, who asked not to be identified, told The Post, “They’re just a great, typical community-involved family. They’re a normal family, and now multiple families will be destroyed by this.”

Another neighbor, who did not know the family personally, said the timing and proximity of the shooting were unsettling. “It’s terrible. It’s sad, and you never think it will hit so close to home. It’s crazy,” the neighbor said.

Police have not announced a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives continued to work through the evening gathering details about the sequence of events leading to the shooting.

Authorities have not released additional information regarding the weapon used or how the teen gained access to it. Suffolk County police said updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

Finn’s death comes during a busy travel period as families across the region prepared for Thanksgiving, leaving the Nesconset community stunned by the violence.
