Malcolm X’s family filed litigation against the federal government Friday, alleging the feds played a significant role in his assassination.
Three of Malcom X’s daughters were behind the filing in their own names and that of his estate, according to TMZ. They claimed that the Department of Justice (DOJ), CIA, FBI and New York Police Department (NYPD) were all involved in a vast conspiracy behind the fatal shooting of their father in 1965. The court documents allege the institutions knew of credible threats against him prior to his assassination at Manhattan’s Audubon Ballroom, and also conducted a long-term coverup of the events that unfolded, according to TMZ.

The family alleged J. Edgar Hoover, then overseeing the FBI, ordered federal agencies to illegally watch Malcolm X, according to TMZ. They said in the lawsuit that he instructed them to take steps to undermine the protection assigned to Malcom X, rendering the civil rights leader open to attack. The family accused Hoover of being well aware that the shooting was imminent.
Malcolm X’s family alleged that witnesses were steered using false facts and federal agents withheld evidence that they were aware of the plot to kill him, according to TMZ.
