Mamdani: I’ll Shut Up About Globalizing the Intifada. For Now.

“It could have been a lot worse,” said one attendee at a summit between Big Apple business leaders and Democrat mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani. It could also have gone a lot better, it seems.

After an hour, though, the meeting did achieve one thing. Mamdani agreed to “discourage” the use of the phrase “globalize the intifada,” at least through the election. Otherwise, apart from being charming, Mamdani didn’t offer business leaders any reason to reconsider his candidacy:

Zohran Mamdani said he would discourage the use of the slogan “globalize the intifada” in a roughly hourlong meeting with some of New York City’s most powerful executives on Tuesday, seeking to defuse an issue that has prompted a backlash from the business community and beyond.

Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, was questioned by a room of more than 100 executives at an event hosted by the Partnership for New York City, an influential business group. The audience included finance and real-estate executives, high-powered lawyers and a handful of billionaires.

Many in attendance said they walked away impressed by the 33-year-old candidate’s ability to work a crowd but no more comfortable with his ideas.

Sounds like a smashing success! Go figure that a 33-year-old Marxist relying on Mom and Dad to backstop his bills might have some Peter Pan charm, but absolutely no idea how to address business interests and capital concerns. I’m surprised that either side even bothered to meet with the other, especially those representing financial and business interests in New York. When someone declares that his end goal is “seizing the means of production,” what exactly is unclear about the coming results of handing him power?

Rather than meet with Mamdani, their time may have been better spent planning to move operations out of the jurisdiction of a city that may make the movie title Moscow On the Hudson a literal reality. Y’All Street awaits, after all, and the NYSE and NASDAQ are already up and running in Dallas.

Let’s get back to Mamdani’s extremism on the “intifada.” The WSJ reports that Mamdani told the business interests that his interpretation of that slogan was just an expression of opposition to “the Israeli occupation of Gaza.” The problem with that interpretation is that Israel hadn’t occupied Gaza for eighteen years prior to the October 7 massacres committed by Hamas. Ariel Sharon unilaterally withdrew from Gaza in 2005 and dismantled every Israeli settlement with it. The only reason Israel “occupies” Gaza now is that Hamas started a war with Israel with their atrocities and slaughter of more than 1200 — restarted the war for the tenth time, more accurately — and they are badly losing the war they wanted so much.

If Mamdani is being honest, then he’s an idiot on the same par as those who chant “from the river to the sea” without being able to identify either and think that demand is limited to the West Bank and Gaza. More likely, though, Mamdani knows that “globalize the intifada” is a call for a worldwide campaign of terror against Israel and Jews with the aim of destroying the Jewish state entirely. When the two choices at hand are idiocy or terror sympathies, that puts to lie the idea that the meeting could have gone worse.

Mamdani is making it clear who he is. Everyone else seems to be either trying to find ways to convince themselves otherwise, or is jockeying for position to be the last one up against the wall, come the revolution. That seems especially true of Democrat leadership who have been afraid to call out a Marxist socialist revolutionary in their ranks, even one who espouses terrorist sloganeering and will only agree to edit the terminology long enough to get elected under the Democrat banner.
