Mayor Zohran Mamdani has teamed up with rapper Cardi B — who previously admitted to drugging and robbing men as a stripper — on a childcare initiative.
The alliance was announced Friday by the mayor’s office.
The Bronx rapper will help judge 15-30 second songs as part of a jingle contest to be used to promote Mamdani’s 2-k initiative, according to a press release.
The winner’s jingle will be used to encourage families to apply for the 2-k program, which was described by the pair in their promotional video.
Cardi B addressed her admission to drugging and robbing men in 2019 after it sparked backlash.
“Whether or not they were poor choices at the time, I did what I had to do to survive,” she wrote in a now-deleted social media post, according to BBC.
“I never claimed to be perfect or come from a perfect world,” Cardi said, in part.
The rapper once worked as a stripper before rising to fame. In a resurfaced Instagram Live, she had admitted to drugging men in hotel rooms and stealing their valuables to make ends meet, Fox News reported, citing Hip Hop Ratchet.
Cardi B kicked off the video by praising Mamdani.

“Can you believe that?! We have a 34-year-old mayor! I feel like I’m a kid, and you’re, like, running New York!” she exclaimed.
Mamdani dove into the details.
“Cardi, what do you think of free childcare?” he asked.
The rapper replied, “I feel like free childcare is very important. Sometimes us women we can’t really go forward because we don’t have nobody to help us take care of our kids.”
Mamdani remained zoned-in on pushing the program with Cardi’s help.

“This fall we’re starting to deliver universal 2-K, which is just like pre-K, just like 3-K, but 2-K for 2-year-olds. Free childcare, 2,000 seats in the fall, and there’s gonna be seats in the Bronx starting it up,” he said.
He hyped Cardi B up by asking, “Enrollment actually starts in June, and we had a question for you: We’re going to have a competition to create a jingle, so New Yorkers are going to submit their best jingle, and we wanted to know if you would help judge that competition!”

“The mayor’s going to help you! And I’m gonna judge, and he’s going to give because he’s the one with the funds!” she shouted at the end of the clip.
