Federal authorities have captured a man accused of vandalizing the New Jersey federal prosecutor’s office after he was denied entry because he carried a baseball bat.

U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi said Saturday that law enforcement arrested the suspect, who allegedly damaged property at Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba’s office Wednesday. Bondi said that people who threaten federal prosecutors will face consequences.

The confrontation began when the building’s security personnel turned away a man carrying a baseball bat. The building houses Habba’s office. Sources familiar with the incident said the individual returned later without the weapon and demanded to meet the acting prosecutor, CBS News reported.

After staff refused his request, the man allegedly destroyed items in the waiting area before he escaped. The property damage occurred in the reception space of the federal prosecutor’s office. (RELATED: AOC’s Bronx Office Vandalized Because She Apparently Isn’t Anti-Israel Enough)

Thanks to the great work of @FBI, @USMarshalsHQ, and @HSI_HQ the suspect wanted in the attack on @USAttyHabba’s office is now in custody.

No one will get away with threatening or intimidating our great US Attorneys or the destruction of their offices.

Bondi praised law enforcement’s swift response but did not reveal the suspect’s identity.

“No one will get away with threatening or intimidating our great US Attorneys or the destruction of their offices,” Bondi said on social media.

Habba, who has led federal prosecutions in New Jersey since March, celebrated the arrest. “We got him,” she posted online Saturday, pledging that federal partners would not accept violence or intimidation against law enforcement personnel.

The president previously nominated Habba for the permanent U.S. attorney position in New Jersey but withdrew the nomination and maintained her in an acting capacity that has generated legal challenges.

The Justice Department has not disclosed charges against the suspect or provided additional details about the investigation.
