Many North Carolina Democrats have a negative outlook on former Vice President Kamala Harris’ political future, according to the Washington Post.

Some of Democratic voters in the key swing state were extremely unenthused about the prospect of Harris launching a White House bid in 2028, the Washington Post reported on Friday. The report comes as Harris has been back in the spotlight for a media blitz to promote her memoir, “107 Days,” which she released on Tuesday.

Chip Hunter, a 70-year-old psychologist, told the Washington Post that while he thinks Harris has “a place in the party in the future,” he does not “see her being the face of the party or the next candidate for president.” Similarly, Amy Ortega, a 28-year-old lawyer, told the outlet that she views Harris as part of “the past.” (RELATED: Kamala Harris Claims Her Rally Crowds Would ‘Pass’ Babies Around In Bizarre Word Salad)

“I see her as the past. … The ball was dropped, and I think it would be hard to convince me anyway that there’s a comeback from that,” Ortega told the outlet.

Victoria Peterson, a 72-year-old political activist, told the outlet that she “would hope that she [Harris] would be able to represent the future, but that is part of my concern.”

“Not really hearing enough about her really on the grass-roots level. … People really did not really get a chance to really get to know her,” Peterson added.

“I was talking to some of my friends and we feel that her political career is over because there’s no way she can come back from the things that’s in her book, how she kind of burned a lot of bridges with Gavin Newsom, Joe Biden and some other prominent Democrats,” William F., 60, who works as an account manager, told the Washington Post.

Still, Allison Keenan, 66-year-old retired physician assistant, told the Washington Post that Harris “could be a good leader” moving forward. However, Keenan added that she feels “skeptical” about other voters supporting Harris in future elections.

“I believe in second chances. I definitely think that she could be a good leader going forward,” Keenan said. “I don’t know if the sentiment of the American people would support that, so I would be skeptical for sure.”

Corey Ritter, a 23-year-old who recently graduated from North Carolina Central University, told the Washington Post that he would want to see Harris run again in future elections.

“I do think she could be the future of the Democratic Party,” Ritter said. “I would like to see her run again in the future.”

In an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, Harris signaled regret over not expressing concerns to former President Joe Biden about his decision to seek reelection in 2024, claiming it was “reckless.” Moreover, some Democrats and Biden White House officials are reportedly upset with Harris over her new book.

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said during a Sept. 10 appearance on “Fox & Friends” that Harris cannot acknowledge her own “incompetence” when she was in the White House.

Harris announced on July 30 that she was declining to run in the 2026 California gubernatorial race, stamping out rumors that she was running to replace incumbent Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is term-limited. The move ramped up speculation that the failed 2024 Democratic nominee intends to jump into the battle for the White House in 2028.

“I think she will be a part of the field of candidates,” Kenneth Hughes, 32, who works in tech for a finance company, told the Washington Post. “But … I don’t see a path forward for her. … She could be part of the past to me.”

Harris’ office did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
