Actress Margot Robbie is sharing details about an early experience in Hollywood that she says left a lasting impression, as reported by Fox News.

During an interview with Charli XCX for Complex, Robbie described receiving a book from a male co-star early in her career. According to Robbie, the gift came with an implied message about appearance and weight.

“Very, very early in my career, an actor I worked with, a male actor, gave me a book called ‘Why French Women Don’t Get Fat,’ and it was essentially a book telling you to eat less,” she said.

“And I was like, ‘Whoa, f**k you, dude,’” she said of her reaction.

Robbie, now 35, said the exchange took place years ago and noted that she does not know where the actor is today.

“Really back in the day.”

Charli XCX responded jokingly during the interview.

“Your career’s over, babe,” she said.

Robbie elaborated on how she interpreted the gesture at the time.

“He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight,” the actress said. “I was like, ‘Wow.’”

The book in question, “French Women Don’t Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure,” was published in 2007 and written by Mireille Guiliano.

Robbie first gained prominence starring in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. She later broke into Hollywood with a role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street.

Her career continued with leading roles in films including I, Tonya, Suicide Squad, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

She has received three Academy Award nominations, earning best actress nominations for “I, Tonya” and Barbie, and a best supporting actress nomination for Bombshell.

Robbie’s latest role is Catherine “Cathy” Earnshaw in Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell. The adaptation of Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel also stars Jacob Elordi, known for his role in the HBO series Euphoria.

The romantic drama is scheduled to premiere Feb. 13. Charli XCX wrote the film’s soundtrack.

Robbie’s comments offer a glimpse into her early experiences in the entertainment industry, as she continues to headline major projects more than a decade after her breakout role.
