Billionaire Mark Cuban, co-owner of the Dallas Mavericks, recently appeared on CNN to voice his support for Kamala Harris in a discussion with legal analyst Scott Jennings.
The exchange, however, did not go as planned for Cuban, who struggled to counter Jennings’ pointed critiques of Harris’s record as vice president.
The segment aired Friday, with Cuban defending Harris’s tenure amid Jennings’ questioning. Jennings criticized Harris’s track record, noting her years in the Senate and nearly four-year term as vice president. “You act as though she just landed here on a spacecraft 13 weeks ago,” Jennings said. “She’s been the vice president for an entire term… She has a record as vice president. And I think what’s hurting your campaign is that she also has a record when she ran for president, and she said a lot of things that have come back to her.”

Cuban attempted to pivot, comparing Harris’s record with former President Donald Trump’s. “That’s a different world,” Cuban responded. “I mean, I can go back ten years. When Donald Trump said he wanted to tax oil companies out of existence. You can talk about section 230. You can talk about Bitcoin. You can talk about abortion. There’s a long list of things that Donald Trump has flip-flopped on.”
Jennings, however, maintained his focus on Harris’s time in office. “But he was the president, and he has a record, and she was the vice president. And she has a record,” Jennings countered.
In a surprising response, Cuban remarked, “But, you know, that whole comparison isn’t legit because the vice president doesn’t do anything.”
This defense of Harris led to confusion, as it implied that her role lacked substantive contributions.
Jennings responded by outlining several key decisions and policies Harris was involved in as vice president, emphasizing her active role in the administration’s work over the last term.

Cuban’s approach, relying on downplaying Harris’s record, did not sway the discussion, and Jennings later posted the segment with additional context on social media.
I usually post short clips but tonight here’s the full debate with @mcuban on @cnn. Hosted by @kaitlancollins who was terrific as always. Yellow lines and dead squirrels ️! Mark was gracious and I enjoyed meeting him. pic.twitter.com/dGG9TdeKpK

Cuban has been vocal in his support for Harris leading up to the election, frequently appearing in media to advocate for her.
This recent appearance, however, drew criticism for his handling of the discussion with Jennings, whose fact-based approach highlighted Harris’s policy history in contrast to Cuban’s more generalized defense.
Throughout the 2024 election cycle, Jennings has been known for challenging Democrat-dominated panels, bringing attention to records and policy decisions with a straightforward style.
Mark Cuban defended Kamala’s open border, saying her “heart was too big.”
