Thirty-five cars of a Union Pacific train derailed Tuesday afternoon near the small town of Gordon, Texas, prompting a hazardous materials response, according to officials, as reported by The New York Post.

The derailment occurred around 2 p.m. just east of Gordon, a rural community located approximately 65 miles southwest of Fort Worth. Union Pacific spokeswoman Robynn Tysver confirmed that no injuries had been reported and no evacuation orders had been issued.

News footage from the scene showed several rail cars stacked on top of one another along the tracks, with visible smoke and a grass fire burning nearby.

According to the statement, none of the derailed rail cars were leaking their contents. Small grass fires were reported following the derailment, but officials said no structures were currently threatened.

“Fire officials are actively working to contain and extinguish them,” the district added.

Tysver said Union Pacific crews were on the way to the scene to assist with the response and assess the damage. The Palo Pinto Fire Department was working to contain the grass fires, which were burning in dry vegetation near the tracks.
