Which he has been by none other than the federales known as Immigration and Customs Enforcement, aka everybody’s favorite bogeymen, ICE.

The new mayor really can’t stand them, but now it’s personal.

It seems that one of the New York City Council employees was snatched up at an immigration hearing yesterday, and hizdizzoner is having a cow about it, demanding answers why in a stern tone that strikes fear into the heart of precisely no one.

I am outraged to hear a New York City Council employee was detained in Nassau County by federal immigration officials at a routine immigration appointment. This is an assault on our democracy, on our city, and our values. I am calling for his immediate release and will continue…

Contrary to the current narrative of death and mayhem spreading wherever ICE goes, the agents normally don’t show up at immigration proceedings without two things in mind: 1) a specific named target, 2) a legal reason to be after him

So – off the cuff, of course, as I’m not an ICE expert, I only play one here at HotAir – if I had to guess, I would venture that there was something special about this particular employee of the city’s which caused him to be apprehended, as opposed to a victim of cruel circumstance and ICE having nothing better to do.

There’s no doubt the man is special. Why else would the city council be holding ‘Emergency Updates’ otherwise?

It seems as if, for all the posturing and bluster, ICE had its man again.

Visa overstay – oh, shocker – but the kind of guy who also had an assault charge and was ordered deported, but decided he’d hang around instead because what were the chances of getting booted out of the country?

Practically nil until recently.

…The arrest reportedly occurred during a scheduled immigration court appearance on Long Island. According to sources, the individual was ordered removed from the U.S. in 2017 after an alleged assault case, but remained in the country.

The situation is still unfolding as federal authorities continue their investigation.

Naturally, a nine-year-old deportation order and assault charges make this whole situation Trump/ICE’s fault.

…that the authorities in New York City and the state prioritize these scummy characters who don’t belong here over the safety, health, economic stability, and well-being of their citizens and legal residents.

The ‘rights’ of immigrants are first and foremost in elected officials’ minds.

…In December, McLaughlin said the sanctuary city is harboring over 7,000 known criminal illegal aliens and purposefully shielding them from immigration officials, her comments coming as President Donald Trump’s administration has been working to crack down on illegal alien crime hurting Americans, according to Breitbart News.

Any effort to cooperate with these efforts is a moral stain on our city. We should strengthen our sanctuary city laws.”

In addition, the mayor has told illegals how to “stand up” to ICE agents, Breitbart News reported in December.
