Former 60 Minutes correspondent Lesley Stahl, known for her contentious 2020 interview with then-President Donald Trump, faced sharp criticism from journalist and podcaster Megyn Kelly this week.
The exchange came after Stahl expressed concerns about the decline of corporate media during an interview with Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan.
In her conversation with Noonan, Stahl admitted feeling disheartened about the public’s trust in the media, comparing journalists to other low-trust professions.

“We’re way down there with the lawyers,” Stahl said. “We’re way down there with Congress.”
Stahl added, “I’m extremely worried about the press. I despair. I worry greatly. I’m very dark about it.”
While lamenting the decline, Stahl also appeared to shift some of the blame onto former President Trump, rather than addressing the role media organizations have played in losing public trust.
Lesley Stahl worried sick that the ‘legacy media is dead’:

Kelly took issue with Stahl’s comments, using her podcast on Thursday to highlight what she views as significant lapses in journalistic integrity.
“I have a lot of suggestions for you, Lesley,” Kelly said. “Should we go over them?”
Kelly first addressed Stahl’s handling of the Hunter Biden laptop story, criticizing her 2020 interview with Trump, during which Stahl dismissed his claims about the laptop as unverifiable.
“Like maybe don’t say the laptop can’t be verified when it can. And then when your own organization verifies it, come out and do a mea culpa and admit you embarrassed yourself,” Kelly remarked.
Kelly also pointed to a separate controversy involving 60 Minutes.
She criticized the network for editing an interview with then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris in a way that she argued made Harris appear more polished.

“Maybe don’t stealth edit the Democratic presidential candidate’s interview with ’60 Minutes,’ your flagship program that you’re an anchor of, without telling us,” Kelly said. “And then when it becomes a controversy, refuse to release the transcript because you’re more interested in running cover for the Dems than you are in honest reporting.”
Kelly concluded her critique by referencing the vice-presidential debate between JD Vance and Tim Walz, accusing Stahl’s network of bias in its moderation.
“Maybe don’t host a vice-presidential debate where you fact-check only one side,” Kelly said. “And then when your fact check gets fact-checked by the vice-presidential candidate on the Republican side, you cut his mic!”
Kelly ended her remarks with a pointed statement: “Just a few thoughts off the top of my head on what you can do about it.”

Stahl has faced criticism from conservatives since her 2020 interview with Trump on 60 Minutes.
During the segment, she dismissed Trump’s claims that his campaign was spied on by the Obama administration, a claim later substantiated by various investigations.
Stahl’s recent comments about the state of the media have reignited debates about journalistic bias and accountability.
Kelly’s response highlights ongoing frustrations among conservatives regarding perceived double standards in corporate media coverage.
