Megyn Kelly delivered a pointed response this week to actor George Clooney after he questioned her journalism credentials and mocked her career in a recent interview.
The former Fox News anchor and current host of The Megyn Kelly Show responded during an 11-minute segment of her Wednesday podcast, taking aim at Clooney’s comments and his political activism.
Clooney, appearing in a sit-down with actress Patti LuPone for Variety’s Actors on Actors: Broadway series, discussed his portrayal of journalist Edward R. Murrow in his current Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck.

While reflecting on the show’s finale montage — which includes clips of Kelly and other public figures like Elon Musk — Clooney said, “You see Megyn Kelly, who’s come out and said I’m not a journalist. I didn’t say I was a journalist. I’ve at least been to Darfur and Sudan and the Congo and been shot at to try to get stories out. I’m not quite sure what she’s done to be a journalist.”
Kelly addressed the remarks directly, calling Clooney’s statement “cowardice and naked partisanship.”
Referring to Clooney’s July New York Times op-ed calling for President Joe Biden to step down from the 2024 presidential race, Kelly argued that Clooney had waited too long to speak out despite knowing about Biden’s alleged cognitive decline.
“[Clooney’s] starring in a play about Edward R. Murrow because Clooney fancies himself a journalist, you see, and has lots of thoughts on how journalists need to do journalism,” Kelly said.

“He does it mainly by stumbling upon the biggest story of the decade — that a sitting president is mentally infirm and ought to be 25th Amendment’ed right out of office — and then burying it, saying absolutely nothing for weeks on end.”
Kelly continued: “And then only after that president humiliates himself on the national stage at a presidential debate, and then refuses to step down as the entire Democrat Party watches its electoral chances go swirling down the toilet, finally he decides to write an op-ed… That’s not journalism, George — it’s cowardice and naked partisanship. You’re not fooling anyone.”
Clooney’s recent Broadway run and his increased political commentary have drawn fresh attention.
Kelly speculated that the actor’s stage pivot might reflect dwindling Hollywood opportunities.
“So now he’s starring in his Broadway show … by the way, what’s the matter, George? Are the Hollywood roles getting a little hard to come by as you age and get decidedly more smug and self-congratulatory? I’m just asking,” she added.
“His world is the world of entertainment and cosplaying ‘human rights advocate’…” @megynkelly unloads on George Clooney for claiming he’s more of a journalist than Megyn is.

Clooney has been the subject of criticism from President Donald Trump as well, who responded to the New York Times op-ed by referring to Clooney as a “fake movie actor” and “a second-rate movie star.”
Trump previously said, “He’s turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are.”
Despite that, Clooney recently acknowledged Trump’s political dominance and charisma, telling Variety, “There’s no taking that away from him. He’s a television star.”
Clooney also predicted Trump would “go away,” comparing him to historical political figures like Joseph McCarthy and President Andrew Jackson.
Clooney said he was not fazed by Trump’s remarks, telling CBS Mornings, “I don’t care. I’ve known Donald Trump for a long time. My job is not to please the President of the United States. My job is to try and tell the truth when I can.”
Clooney, who hosted a high-profile fundraiser last year that raised $30 million for Biden’s 2024 campaign, has since distanced himself from the current Democratic nominee.
He told CNN that Maryland Governor Wes Moore stands out as a potential Democratic leader moving forward, citing his military background and leadership during the 2024 Baltimore bridge collapse.
Clooney said, “I like him a lot, I think he’s someone we could all fall in behind.”
