Melania Trump joined President Donald Trump in the Rose Garden on Monday to sign the “Take It Down Act” bill, a piece of legislation she publicly supported.
The “Take It Down Act” is designed to combat the growing issue of AI deepfakes and revenge porn and secured Melania’s full support. Melania championed the bill as part of her “Be Best” initiative. The bipartisan bill was first introduced by Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Democratic Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and passed the U.S. Senate in February. The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the legislation in late April, and it has now been signed into law as part of a signing ceremony at the White House.

The First Lady dressed in a smart grey blazer and skirt and walked hand-in-hand with the president down the garden steps and across the lawn as they made their way to sign the bill.
The new law targets the publication online real and artificially generated explicit images and videos without consent, according to NBC News. Those convicted of violating it could be sentenced to pay mandatory restitution as well as a fine, prison or both.

Melania spoke before the president signed the legislation and said artificial intelligence is “digital candy” for this generation.
“[B]ut unlike sugar this new technology can be weaponized,” Melania continued.

Under the “Take It Down” Act, now signed into law, it would be a federal offense to “knowingly publish” intimate images without the subject’s consent or threaten to do so.
