Earlier this month, Love’s daughter disclosed that the former congresswoman had been undergoing treatment for brain cancer but that the cancer had stopped responding to therapy.

Love made history in 2014 when she was elected to represent Utah’s 4th Congressional District, becoming the first Black Republican woman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.

She served two terms in Congress, from 2015 to 2019.

She lost her reelection bid in 2018 to Democrat Ben McAdams by a narrow margin.

During her time in Congress, Love served on the House Financial Services Committee and focused on issues related to fiscal responsibility, government accountability, and conservative values.

Prior to her time in Washington, Love served as the mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah.

Her election was seen as a historic moment for both Utah and the Republican Party.

Throughout her political career, Love emphasized personal responsibility, limited government, and opportunity, often citing her family’s immigrant background and her own experience as a working mother.

Love was also a frequent speaker at conservative events and Republican National Conventions.

After leaving office, she became a political commentator and contributor for CNN, offering insights on national policy and conservative politics.

Her death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from political leaders and colleagues across the political spectrum, many of whom praised her trailblazing role in Congress and her dedication to public service.

Further details about funeral arrangements and a public memorial service are expected to be released by her family in the coming days.
