House Speaker Mike Johnson dropped a bombshell Friday, claiming President Donald Trump served as an FBI informant to help bring down Jeffrey Epstein.
Johnson made the unprecedented assertion while defending Trump’s recent description of the Epstein saga as a “hoax.” Speaking to reporters at the Capitol, Johnson insisted Trump wasn’t dismissing Epstein’s crimes but rather Democratic attempts to link him to the disgraced financier.
“He was an FBI informant to try to take this stuff down,” Johnson said, Live Now Fox reported. “The president knows, and has great sympathy for the women who suffered these unspeakable harms. It’s detestable to him.”
No official has previously claimed Trump worked with the FBI on the Epstein case. The White House hasn’t responded to Johnson’s statement.

The Speaker’s comments came two days after Trump told reporters he wanted to focus on “the greatness of our country” rather than “the Epstein hoax,” according to the outlet. Johnson argued Trump meant Democrats were using the case to attack him politically, not that Epstein’s crimes were fabricated.

The controversy erupted as lawmakers push for full disclosure of Justice Department files on Epstein, who died in jail in 2019. A bipartisan group hosted a press conference Wednesday with 10 Epstein victims, demanding Congress vote on legislation requiring the release of all documents.
Johnson faces pressure from both parties to allow a floor vote on the transparency bill. Attorney General Pam Bondi reportedly told Trump his name appears multiple times in Epstein case documents, though the administration maintains no client list exists.
